They did paint Zimmerman in a bad light by editing critical parts of the call out. They ASKED him what color the man was. Yet NBC didn't have the integrity to show the tape in context and let the truth come out, whipping up a murderous mob.

Let me first make the blanket statement that as far as I'm concerned nothing has changed my initial opinion that Zimmerman is culpable in this situation having followed someone around a darkened neighborhood on foot. Being a supposed neighborhood watch member/captain he should have been well aware of his limitations in authority and the safety protocols to follow in this situation which pretty much make it clear that Zimmerman should have never left his truck. He got too ate-up with what he was doing, got stupid, and in the end got a kid killed.

That having been said....

The emotionalisms and frantic cries are all well and good for the news and the race baiter's but to tell you the truth of it I'm getting sick of it. I carry every day...does this make me a "coward"? Is it the fact that Zimmerman actually used his gun? According to him the kid (actually bigger than him and not much lighter) laid him out and was repeatedly banging his head against the concrete. Is Zimmerman's story true? IDK...but if it is true I've got some news for you. Getting the upper hand in a fight is one thing, but if you set out to do something which has every chance of either killing me or turning me into a drooling idiot then; yeah...No, not just yeah; Hell yeah, I'm going to do everything in my power to stop you. I will shoot you...I will stab you...I will bust your windpipe so far closed it will take an immediate tracheotomy to keep you alive.

Get the idea?

If anyone on this board thinks that this makes me a "coward" step right up and say so. Better yet; step into a ring with me and you can illustrate how much of a "coward" I really am.

It's also not like he was killed in front of Zimmerman's truck. It happened midway, which makes it possible for either of them to be the initiator of the confrontation.
Which further exacerbates this whole thing....and in my view makes Zimmerman even more culpable. He didn't just get out to try to get a better look...or to see a street sign. As the 911 recording makes clear he was following the kid.

The known facts do not refute anything Zimmerman said. In fact, the known facts support his testimony. We obviously don't know for certain that the thug walked up and said "you got a problem homey?", but since he the no limit nigga had no problem running his mouth on twitter, it shows it to be plausable he would act that way.

Crime no....stupid yes.

Engaing in an unlawful act is not the only way one can cause a bad situation.

No they don't....neither do they confirm his version at this point in time. It would not surprise me at all if Zimmerman's story was true point by point...I am familiar with the Martin kids apparent mentality. I myself shared a "black-leather jacketed thug" version of it about 30 years ago.

I'm also familiar with the mentality that Zimmerman was apparently displaying that night though, and it would not surprise me if Zimmerman had attempted to detain the kid.

It doesn't matter who started the confrontation. If the experts are right and the voice we hear screaming for help on that 911 tape is not Zimmerman, then at the time of the gun shot, Martin was verbally withdrawing from the confrontation which makes Zimmerman the aggressor from that point on.

Neither of these guys come off as saints. Martin was under suspension from school, and likely smoked pot. Zimmerman's rap sheet includes an assault on a police officer.

Both of them apparently had plenty of good points as well, and their families loved them. So one stupid confrontation leaves two lives irrevocably damaged, with one of them dead.

This is not the stuff from which you might fashion a morality play. Hopefully, it will force a clarification of the "stand your ground" laws to prevent future deaths.

God bless us, every one.

This is under the assumption that Zimmermans story is accurate.

Bull....to say someone has not committed an unlawful act is not to say they are not responsible for an occurrence. Where does it end? I really can't say for sure but I know that it begins: It begins with the concept that if you choose to exercise your right to be armed then you as well have the responsibilities which go with that right. Avoiding unnecessary confrontation is one of them. If you take it upon yourself to do a job for the betterment of those around you it is a fact that you will also pick up the responsibilities which go with that job . Knowing how to respond to situations to avoid escalation is one of them.

True...unfortunately this sort of thing happens too often. If not this way then in others.

I think that is necessary...judging from some of the cases that have been brought up due to this one; I don't think that the law is being administered the way it was intended in some circumstances.

This is indeed the problem though...he had no idea who he was following. To make matters worse he was alone. Following in the truck is one thing but to get out and follow on foot is an entirely different thing. Judging from the layout of the area and Zimmerman's own account if he was following an actual violent criminal we wouldn't be hearing about this other than a blurb in the Orlando Sentinel about someone finding the dead body of a neighborhood watch volunteer in the bushes.

The kid at one point even came up to Zimmerman while he was in his truck and asked him why he was following him and Zimmerman claimed he wasn't. This in and of itself escalated the situation immensely. It was obvious that he was following him and Zimmerman lied to the kid....what would you think if you were in the kids position? Remember 17 year old mind here...not the rational adult one you have now. Zimmerman should have told the kid (through the closed or cracked window) he was Captain of the neighborhood watch and he had already called the police who were on their way and had his description and location.

These are just a couple glaring "don'ts" which Zimmerman "did" and they come from his own account. This is not "hindsight is 20/20 stuff; these are basic protocols which anyone who has even a remote clue should know if you are going to put yourself in such a situation.

...and I'm willing to bet that Zimmerman does not know everyone who lives there neither can identify everyone as a resident or not.

Zimmerman is an overzealous idiot. It's not wonder Nick defends him.

Police were on the way. Zimmerman never even should have engaged Martin in conversation.

Neighborhood watch. Not self-appointed deputy Barney Fife.
