That's a false Gospel. Christ's Death reconciles men to God both objectively and subjectively. Man plays no part in his reconciliation to God as far as its application is concerned, he is passive ! That what you just agreed with is salvation by works !
We are called to preach the good news. The Holy Spirit confirms it. Why are you so dogmatic are you afraid someone might get saved that you don't want to?

When I look at all the people that scoff at election (which is a doctrine clearly taught in scripture), I view them as unsaved people that desire to be saved and in their heart realize there is nothing they can do about it because they haven't been granted the Holy Spirit to guide them. Hence the get indignant and offended and do everything they can do to tear true Christians down.. just as the devil wants them to.

He asks because he doesn't exactly understand what the atonement is. Atonement was used seventy times in the Bible, and only once was it used in the NT. The reason being it involved the shedding of blood...the offering for sins...the ransom price paid, as pictured in the OT offerings of atonement.
It was offered for all, and received by those with faith.
Reconciled to God by the His death on the cross.....AND "not only so"...."we shall be saved by His life" when we RECEIVE that reconciliation by FAITH.
Romans 5:10-11 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
An atonement that does not save those to whom it is applied is not an atonement at all.
That does not make sense. IF and WHEN it is applied then they ARE saved. What gives you the right to proclaim God's Sovereignty on the unsaved at any given time?

It reflects poorly on God's omnipotence if one says that He can't apply it to all. Atonement was meant for all of humanity not just designed for some.

Actually, the Calvinist would submit that God saves men despite their "fickle nature".
To claim that God's purposes in His creation depend on your obedience is doing injustice to the character of an almighty God.
