What if Jesus is not God? - April 11th, 2012, 08:04 AM

So what?

I've been entertaining the theology of the Father being the only true God.

If Jesus is not God, what are the implications to Christianity? I say nothing.

What say ye?

I don't believe Jesus was a god, just a flawed human being like the rest of us.

Mind you even the worst of us are not as unpleasant as the deity portrayed in the Bible.

Im not arguing that Jesus was not sinless. I believe that he was still a perfect being.

Perfect in what way? Even if one believes the gospel stories, he doesn't come over as my idea of perfect.

from what I've seen of your posts, you have a distorted view of Christianity to begin with, causing your fall from faith.

Name some examples where you think he was less than perfect in your eyes?

If Jesus is not GOD then there is no bridge between finite created being and infinite uncreated being, and we are without hope for intimacy or reconciliation.

Pro 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?-ESV

Joh 1:18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.-ESV

Heb 1:3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature[substance], and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,-ESV

okay. Lets drill that down. Why does Jesus need to be God to be that bridge?

Well he had a temper for a start, trashing the Temple was the work of a vandal. He frightened some pigs over a cliff, and there is no record he paid the farmer compensation! He had a big opinion of himself, a real deity would have been more modest, imo. He said some stupid things like people hating their families, and that they should leave behind their responsibilities and follow him. It is stated he wasn't accepted in his own community. Maybe they knew rather more about this Jesus guy than his gullible followers, and weren't impressed!

OIC your question is valid and one many are afraid of (usually for unnecessary reasons).

IF you take the time to study the text you may find many of these titles in the NT where changed in the 2nd century, while other copies held outside of Roman influence retain their more ambiguous terms which differ from modern mainstream dogmas and interpretations.

When finding this many people do fall from faith, based on errant presumptions like the one steko opens his post with.

The next logical step is to consider why all the Christians would NOT listen to a prophet of God unless he fulfilled their dogmatic traditions of men, it's cuts directly to the heart of this issue, you will get all sorts of errant rebuttals like "if Jesus was just a prophet".....

just a prophet,
I wish people who say that can read the ridiculousness of their own statements, none of the prophets where "just" anything they were people selected by God for specific purposes, if that's a "just" to believers today than they are missing a majority of the theme of the Torah which all the apostles drew from in their writings.

I doubt such people would listen to Jesus even if God gave him the power to heal the sick free the captives, and all authority on earth, etc etc,,,, but wait, He did

keep shinin

jerm

If you deny that Jesus is God, then you are not saved. John had quite a bit to say on the subject. Belief in a false Jesus is false belief. Scripture clearly portrays Jesus as God. He is the daysmen between creator and creature. Christianity is no better than any other religion if Jesus is not God.

Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. If you deny that basic truth, you cannot be saved. God came to save you, you cannot be saved if you do not believe in Him as He is.

this post is full of emotion... Bad judgement skewing emotion.

Why did he trash the tables in the temple?
Why did he order the demons into the pigs?
Why would he say those things?

(no need to answer these. They are just here to make you think)

You look at the situations, and say, "Well I wouldn't have..."... No one cares what you would have done.

Jesus didn't come to earth to make friends and fit into people's "feel-good emotions". He came to pay the price for our sin.
