Let's Check to See Just How Sick Some TOL Posters Are -
April 24th, 2012, 11:05 AM
The latest edition of PBS' "Need To Know" was titled, "Crossing the Line at the Border". It was about numerous deaths along the border at the hands of the U.S. Border Patrol, especially focusing on the incident where Anastasio Hernandez Rojas was repeatedly tased and brutally beaten for about half-an-hour by several agents near the San Diego / Tijuana border station where video and audio were caught on several cell phones. Below is a link to the video of the show. I believe that your reactions to this video will reveal some of those among us who lack even a trace of compassion.

In the first place, you haven't even had time to have viewed the video yet (23 minute video, and your posting 10 minutes after I post the OP) to know what the content is, yet your knee is already jerking. It was a show aired on PBS. If you haven't watched it you have no idea what this thread is about in the first place. And yes, I do believe that you are part of the target audience.

Busted.

How about people who come into this country LEGALLY the way that my late wife did?
She and her other family members waited years for the right to become citizens legally.
She came through the front door and did not sneak in the way so many do.
Should we spit on her grave and say that others should be entitled to all the privileges of full citizenship that illegal immigrants get on a daily basis even though she did what was right and legal and they did not?
What about you, Morpheus? Have you something to say about my deceased wife and others like her who fought and scrimped and earned their way into citizenship in this nation?
The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.

What should I say about your wife? It is a shame that she passed. Regretable as it is, it is irrelevant to the subject here. My daughter was born here and she died at 34. That too is a shame, and just as irrelevant.
Are you then saying that it is justifiable for Border Patrol agents to beat illegal immigrants to death while they are on the ground, handcuffed and hog-tied? Even those who had been caught and spent time in custody, and are being transported back to the border? Even those who have lived here since they were brought here at 15, lived here 27 years already, who are married and raised a couple of kids (citizens) to maturity and still had others as young as 4? Or how about those who were not illegal immigrants, but were shot on the other side of the border? Are you really trying to justify this? If so, give me a better argument than, my wife came here legally. What does that have to do with murder? Or have you become like Tambora and Vaquero who consider illegal immigrants, human beings, to be equated with wild animals? In fact, even though I used to hunt regularly, and raised animals for food, my respect for the life of wild animals seems to be higher than the respect Tambora and Vaquero have for the illegal immigrants. Really, I just would like to know if you are to be counted with them. Has your heart been hardened that much?

No, I am not saying that they should be beaten to death. I am saying, however, that immigrants should obey they law. There are so many good men, women, and children who come to this country through the front door, legally. They come from Mexico, countries in South America, Africa, and elsewhere.
Why do we want to reward those who come here illegally when there are so many who are trying to do the right thing?
I don't care if they came here last Tuesday or when they were 6, illegal is illegal. If we cannot respect the law in this regard, then we have nothing.
Illegal immigrants should be treated with respect and dignity, but they should not be allowed to stay, in my opinion.

My heart is not hardened to human suffering. But the statement "illegal aliens" says it all. They take risks when they break the law. There is no need for beatings or torture. That must be stopped. But border states must also have the right to stem the tide of illegals who are overwhelming their economy.

This thread was not started to, once again, argue about the legality of crossing the border. This thread was started to see just how many people have become so hardened that they would justify torture and murder because of their hatred of a particular group of human beings. I could easily start another thread arguing the immorality of present immigration law, but that is not what this thread is about and I would prefer that we focus on the ethics and morality of beating, torturing and murdering of those in the particular people group that has been labeled "illegal immigrant"; as well as discussing just what kind of person (especially those who call themselves Christian) would justify such actions.

The problem is that the border states generally won't. Texas, for example, profits greatly from the number of illegal immigrants. And because they are good for business, our governor isn't all that eager to get rid of them.

I think VC hit the nail on the head when he wrote:

People are people, and laws are laws. As people, they should be seen and treated as human beings worthy of dignity. As people who have transgressed the law, they should be punished in an equitable way.
