Paul Says Saved Men Desire Spiritual Gifts - April 26th, 2012, 01:31 AM

Before Paul wrote the 1st letter to the Corinthians, Paul fed nothing more than milk to them.
Quote:
1Co 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
Nevertheless, the things Paul preached, from the beginning and through 1 Corinthians, were necessary for salvation.
I began learning this some time ago, when STP directed my attention to scripture that really helped me understand Paul's attitude toward spiritual gifts.
Quote:
1 Co 15:1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
Saved people, people who have not believed in vain, keep in memory the things Paul preached unto the Corinthians from the beginning, when he preached milk to them.
Just four verses before this, Paul says that spiritual men acknowledge that the things he wrote to the Corinthians were the commandments of the Lord.
Quote:
1 Co 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
At the beginning of that 14th chapter of Corinthians, Paul preached these two commandments of the Lord.
Quote:
1 Co 14:1 ¶ Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
To be saved, a person must follow after charity, and, he must desire spiritual gifts. The most desirable spiritual gift is the ability to prophesy.

Jesus Christ showed His disciples how to follow God as a dear child.
Jesus Christ sent His disciples to teach the nations how to follow God as dear children.
Following God as a dear child will teach you all the theology you need.

1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

What I preached unto you refers specifically to the gospel. And, it's this gospel by which they were saved by believing.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

In thy desire to be the great wise teacher of TOL, thou dost maketh up a lot of stuffeth. And, you pervert the gospel in the process. Let the scripture say only what it says.

This is a false gospel... Perversion at its finest.

Dear STP,
Quote:
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you,...
Paul started preaching milk. He went on to preach meat. No one can stand, for long, if he only gets milk. So, obviously, Paul wanted them to move on to the meat he preached.
Once the meat has been heard, the hearer is responsible to remember it.
The gospel that saves was the gospel that the resurrection was our hope. With that hope, works were necessary to have a better resurrection- or, as Paul put it in 1 Tim 6:19:
Quote:
Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
To be able to produce works that lay up in store a good foundation for the time to come, a person needs to grow. That person can edify himself by speaking mysteries in the Spirit with God using a tongue no man understands.
[quote]1 Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
...
4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself;.../QUOTE]
Therefore, Paul gives us the commandments which came from Him who bought us.
Quote:
1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1Co 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
That command to "glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" can not be obeyed if, after hearing the commandment to desire spiritual gifts, you forget it.
Those who received these commandments, and did not act on them, believed in vain. Their resurrection is no better than an unbeliever's.
Quote:
Ro 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Ro 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Col 3:6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
So, if you can't lose your salvation by forgetting the things Paul preached, the only way to understand this is that you never were saved if you don't keep in mind the things Paul preached. I believe that the latter thing is what Paul was saying.
If God is working in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure, you are remembering the things that you know Paul preached.
Remembering the truth prepares one to obey the truth.

Quote:
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
" Unto" is a key word in the passage above. "Unto salvation" is where the gospel takes a believer. If the gospel of the hope of the resurrection is believed, obedience to God's commandments will be produced as the believer works out his salvation with fear and trembling.
If it is not believed, the false brother must pretend that there is a no requirement of repentance from things like uncleanness, fornication, and lasciviousness. The unrepentant were the ones Paul was talking about putting on trial in 2 Co 12 and 13.
Do you believe that the Corinthian who, in the mouth of two or three witnesses, became a person Paul would not spare was saved to begin with?

Jesus Christ showed His disciples how to follow God as a dear child.
Jesus Christ sent His disciples to teach the nations how to follow God as dear children.
Following God as a dear child will teach you all the theology you need.

Dear One in Christ,
You wrote...
Quote:

I gave you scriptures that were in context and applied with no distorted definition of any word or phrase.
You returned a straw man.
A straw man is a fictional or hypothetical in someone's imagination presented, specifically, for the purpose of drawing attention to a decoy while he tries to escape, otherwise, inevitable ruin.

Dear Bybee,
I would laugh, too, if I didn't care so much for STP's soul.
He has not dealt with the matter of obedience to the commandments of the Lord.

No I didnt... The verse you pointed out about desiring spiritual gifts has nothing to do with salvation.

Paul is talking about the gospel, here. Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Believing it is the power of God unto salvation.

Trump, you're adding to the gospel. It's disgusting.

Dear STP,

Paul told the Corinthians, in 1 Co 15:3-4, that the message you presented, above, was the first thing that he delivered to them. In 1 Co 3:2, he says that was milk.
You and I have, both, drunk the milk.
We know the Lord's POV on milk from Heb 5:13-14. Strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who, by reason of use, have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
You and I have drunk the same milk.
If the things you have been taught are true, the scriptures I have presented should not be found where I say they can be found. If they are, then, you should consider it meat the use of which exercises the senses to discern both good and evil.
This ability is necessary for reigning with Christ. Using talents well prepares you to rule- probably, cities during the Millennium (whatever that is) after the first resurrection and the battle that leaves a global power vacuum the likes of which the world has never seen.
Crowns are avalable. See 2 Tim 4:7-8.
Since the scriptures are as I say they are, those who see them should, either, prove that my reasoning is faulty, or, abandon their false doctrine.

Dear One in Christ,
Of course there were several verses in the opener. One (1 Co 15:1-2) said that that remembering the things Paul preached was part of being saved.
So, for you to say that 1 Co 14:1 has nothing to do with salvation means you don't believe that Paul preached "and desire spiritual gifts", I guess.
Do you believe that didn't Paul preach that commandment from the Lord?

Trumpetfolker,

It is usual for babies fed on polluted milk to heap together doctrines according to their own heart.

Not everyone has been baby fed pure milk and it is doubtful that many are the Lords children in the first place.

Does the Lord add to the RCC daily as many who should be saved? I doubt it, yet thousands of "believers" are in it.

Other children of Lot also exist.

A rejection of the gifts is common to those who reject the Lord.
