Jesus never claimed to be God? - April 29th, 2012, 11:29 PM

Are you one of those who believes that Jesus never actually claimed to be God? If so, you need to read your Bible, a little more closely. In Matthew 4:1-11 we are told the story of when Jesus was tempted by Satan. In verse 7 we are told that He quoted the following scripture, "Do not put the Lord your God to the test." This scripture originates from OT times, of course, and is in the OT of the Bible, now. It can be found in Deuteronomy 6:16. Now, the story of the temptation tells us that Satan tempted, and Christ rebuked. If Christ was using that scripture as a rebuke, what was HE saying? Well, He was claiming that He was God. He was saying it directly to Satan, who knew whether or not Jesus was God. So, if Satan knew, and Jesus claimed to be God to him, and Satan didn't deny it, then it logically follows that Jesus is God. And He obviously claimed to be. Even to one who knew the truth, therefore He was not lying. Why would you lie to someone who knew the truth, and would call you on it? So, Jesus claimed to be God, and He is God.

I think it's you that needs to pay more attention to reading scripture.

Where does it say in Mat 4:1-11, that Jesus was God?

Mat 4:1-11 KJV
(1) Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
(2) And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
(3) And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
(4) But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
(5) Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
(6) And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
(7) Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
(8) Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
(9) And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
(10) Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
(11) Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

It amazes me, how you can twist a passage of scripture, like you just did in your above post, to make your claims.

Try reading every single word that's written in the above passage, especially when Jesus said ''IT'S WRITTEN''

When you read this passage properly, it will show you, the love, the compassion, the devotion that Jesus had for God His Father.

When reading the GW version of this passage, it may help in understanding what was actually going on here:

Mat 4:5-7 GW
(5) Then the devil took him into the holy city and had him stand on the highest part of the temple.
(6) He said to Jesus, "If you are the Son of God, jump! Scripture says, 'He will put his angels in charge of you. They will carry you in their hands so that you never hit your foot against a rock.'"
(7) Jesus said to him, "Again, Scripture says, 'Never tempt the Lord your God.'"

This scripture doesn't prove or disprove the trinity, however I will say that If the non trinatarians understood anything about the gospel they would understand that Jesus communicated pretty clearly that he was God. Why else would the Jews want to crusify him? He claimed to be the king of the Jews and equal with God. He claimed to be in the beggining before even Abraham. He claimed to be God. Either he is God and we were saved by God, or he's not and we were saved by a man, and I was NOT saaved by a man.

We are saved by a fully righteous man.

Rom 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Lets not confuse the work of this righteous man with the work of God during the time of His ministry.

You were saved by the Spirit! which manifested as the Word of God which is also Spirit, and that same Word (Spirit) became flesh to qaulify as a kinsmen redeemer for those in bondage to the flesh and it's god, dead in sin and contrare to the Spirit of life which God sent in His only begotten Son in Spirit before the world was, and also begotten in the flesh After the world was, not a new creation but a manifestation of the same substance of the Father that created the new as they did the old together.

Christ wasn't imputed righteousness He was righteousness manifested among the flesh.

Sorry to disappoint you, but you were saved by a very special sinless man who's father was God. God was IN Jesus. That did not make him God. He has a God. He tells you that his father is the only God. Men die, God can't. The Jews believed that when he said he was the Son of God he was saying he was equal to God. Don't make the same mistake they did. No one is equal to God.

It's a long story but start with what I just gave you. Study for yourself and come to your own conclusions. Do not stick to just one translation for some see different from others.

Peace

Jesus did not die in the spirit. He was "put to death in the flesh but vindicated in the spirit." His spirit went down to sheol ALIVE where He announced to the old testament believers that there sins had been paid for.

John believed it too because it was John who said in his narrative that Jesus made Himself equal with God and that the Jews wanted to kill Him for it.

Could you explain why you think the naming the son of God "Emmanuel" is some kind of proof of deity?

Quote:

So are you suggesting that the son is actually the Father?

That the son is not the son, and the Father is not Father?

But the Father is the son and the sons is the Father?
