"The kittens of Israel have demanded a king like all the other nations round about."
Well it looks like a mistake has been made. Pope Samuel did not turn his back on King Saul because the king would not carry out the order to kill all the women and children, that would be murder on Pope Samuel's part. Saul it has been discovered has went to see a familiar spirit. Did you know that was a capital offense in those days? That must have been why Saul was executed. All legal and clean like.
Wait a minute. There is an old saying that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. And the kittens of Israel have rebelled against God's form of government. That in and of itself makes null and void the Kingdom of Israel because not just King Saul but the whole nation is guilty before the One True Living God.
(What's good enough for their first king is good enough for the whole nation. Right? How about it Pope Samuel? Let us hear your words of wisdom on this sin unto death.)
"The very tradition, teaching, & faith of the Catholic Church from the beginning was preached by the Apostles & preserved by the Fathers. On this the Church was founded..." ~ St. Athanasius (4th cent.)
Sorry to have to tell you this green man but there is such a thing as mortal sin. It is found throughout the OT, (or don't you read the OT). Here is what you do green man-
Pick any commandment. Any one of them it does not matter. And when you break that commandment then you will die. Now maybe not right away but soon. You will be gone and another green man will come along and take your place.
"If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death."
This is an offer. You are being offered the opportunity to become an Israelite. Go ahead and take the offer.

i is mostly sprititual death that happens when one sins
separation from God the author of all life... and love
separation from God is Hell...
of course no one is completely separated from God as long as he loves God... so if he repents after the mortal sin... and prays and whatever... he will not end up in hell..

1 Saul was deceived into becoming king.
2 Saul finally realized what it meant to be taking orders from Samuel.
3 Saul's realization caused Samuel to turn his back of Saul.
4 At the point where Samuel turned against Saul there was only one chance for Saul to save himself-
5 "The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,"-
Haven't you found it strange that the first king of Israel made a prophecy and none of it was recorded? I mean the OT makes a big deal about King Saul being numbered as one of the prophets. King Saul removes his clothes and gives a prophecy. But the OT neglected to tell us what that prophecy was.
We all know why there is no interest in the prophecy of King Saul. King Saul's prophecy does not fit with TOL theology. Therefore we strike it from the record.
You say that King Saul was a coward because he would not fight Goliath. But King Saul was brave enough to fight David. You know who David was. The little boy who chopped Goliath. And lest we forget-
King Saul attacked the prophets and slew them for aiding David. That is the order of events right TOL?
1 The Grand Lady sets the king up.
2 The Grand Lady begins to lose control and becomes upset.
3 The king attacks the Grand lady.
4 (Wait just one moment. It is your turn. You tell me what happens next. Speak TOL.)

Is 1 Samuel 10:5-11 what you guys are talking about Saul prophesied? Samuel talking to Saul?
5"... you will come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is; and it shall be as soon as you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and a lyre before them, and they will be prophesying.
6"Then the Spirit of the LORD will come upon you mightily, and you shall prophesy with them and be changed into another man.
7"It shall be when these signs come to you, do for yourself what the occasion requires, for God is with you.
8"And you shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice peace offerings You shall wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you should do."
9Then it happened when he turned his back to leave Samuel, God changed his heart; and all those signs came about on that day.
10 When they came to the hill there, behold, a group of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him mightily, so that he prophesied among them.
11It came about, when all who knew him previously saw that he prophesied now with the prophets, that the people said to one another, "What has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?"
Saul's prophecies are not canonical utterances. I doubt that Saul was foretelling anything in this instance of prophecy. Instead it is far more natural to read that Saul was "speaking of the mighty deeds of God" (something more in tune with what happened in Acts 2:11).
Furthermore, this prophesying did not make Saul a prophet.
Saul's fearlessness was very temporary and his love of God was indeed temporary.
At least that's how I understand it.
Sorry if this is not what you guys are talking about and I missed it altogether. Maybe it is an inside joke.
