Catholicism - The Religion Of "Lord, Lord, Didn't We..." - May 3rd, 2012, 12:47 PM

Council of Trent, Canon #19. "If anyone says that nothing besides faith is commanded in the Gospel, that other things are indifferent, neither commanded nor forbidden, but free; or that the ten commandments in no way pertain to Christians, let him be anathema."

The reason that salvation is by faith and faith alone is because salvation is by Christ and Christ alone.

All of the prophets and Patriarch's in the Old Testament confessed that the were sinners. The apostle Paul confessed that he was "The Chief of Sinners" 1 Timothy 2:15. and then again in Romans 7:24 he refers to himself as a "Wretched Man" and asks the question "Who shall deliver me from this body of death?" The Bible knows NOTHING of a personal infused righteousness that God will accept by obeying the commandments.

Paul wrote, "For if Abraham were justified by works, he has something to glory about; but not before God. For what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness. Now to him that works is the reward not reckoned of grace (God's goodness) but of debt. But to him that does no works but believes on him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness," Romans 4:2, 3, 4, 5.

How much plainer can it be? We don't need to call in a priest or a theologian to figure this one out. We don't need to compile massive amounts of church doctrine and literature to get to the bottom of this. The scripture plainly says that faith is counted for righteousness.

Righteousness does not come by trying to obey the commandments. Why is that so? The reason that is so is because no one can keep or obey the commandments. If you want to become a hypocrite try to live according to the commandments. You can't keep them, you can't live by them, you can't obey them. This is why Christians are not under laws, rules, commandments. They are contrary to us, Colossians 2:14. Christ has removed the law and commandments from us. We are now justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

"For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse; for it is written cursed is every one that does not do all of the things that are written in the book of the law to do them," Galatians 3:10.

What is the book of the law? The Pharisees came up with over 600 laws and rules for holy living. The law reveals the very nature and character of God. To keep the law you would have to be Jesus Christ, he is the only one that ever kept God's law. he kept the law for us, in our name and on our behalf, this was done for our justification, Romans 3:26.

Jesus said, "Many will say to me in that day (judgment day) Lord, Lord, have we not done many wonderful works in your name?

There are two words that you don't want to say in the judgment, one is "we" the other is "I" You see salvation is not about what "we" have accomplished. Salvation is about what Christ has accomplished in our name and on our behalf. Religion (Catholicism) is man's presentation of himself to God. It is the religion of "we" and "I" it is all about you, your works, your obedience, your religion. Remember this Christian tried to warn you.

There are many different Works in the Bible.

Which WORKS are you indication here. ?
Because Paul said.

Ro 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Christian works are done out of gratitude for what Christ has done for us. These are works that are done in the Spirit and are centered in the Gospel. There is nothing to boast about. We establish the law by being "In Christ." Christ is the fulfillment of the law.

Jesus taught the law.

The law reveals the nature and character of God.

It also reveals the sinfulness of man.

Paul said that the law is our schoolmaster that brings us to Christ.

The more you teach it, the more you will see how sinful you are.

Quote from Cruciforms link.
"Like the Catholic church, the Bible and some protestants teach, justification is a process, it is something that begins when we first become Christians which continues in our life and which will be completed when we stand before God at the end of our life on the last day."

This statement is anti-Christ and anti-Gospel.

JUSTIFICATION IS NOT A PROCESS

Justification comes only from the work and person of Jesus Christ. He is our Justifier.

"To declare I say at this time HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS: that he might be just, AND THE JUSTIFIER OF HIM THAT BELIEVES IN JESUS," Romans 3:26.

Jesus Christ in our name and on our behalf has satisfied all of the demands of God's Holy Law. He has also atoned for our sins and the sins of the whole world. THIS IS WHAT JUSTIFIES US.

It appears that you do not know what Jesus taught.

Jesus taught faithfulness, love, and obedience to God the Father.
You accuse Him of teaching the legalism of the Pharisees, who He condemned.

Pate's claim here is definitively refuted in the very article to which he's supposedly responding (Post #6). Moving on...
