The Avengers--possible spoilers - May 6th, 2012, 10:47 PM

Saw The Avengers tonight. Anyone else? I thought is was solid, not great, but worth seeing.

Captain America has a great line that Christians will appreciate. Anyone else catch it?

Natasha: "But he's a god!"
Cap: "Ma'am, there's only one God, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that."

It's one of the few ways Cap's character demonstrates his archaic origins in the film.

I've seen several webcomics which point out that a man from the forties would have a heck of a lot more culture shock to deal with than Captain America is shown dealing with in the films.

Culture shock to a PARALYZING degree.

Of course, this can be explained away by Cap's serum-enhanced intelligence, but Marvel spent years making him deal with it, and the loss of Bucky, in the comics.

And he only jumped forward about twenty years in that medium.

Yes, take a WW II war hero and just drop him in NYC in 2012 and I think he would have trouble adjusting.

Saw the movie twice already. Absolutely loved it. Favorite scene: Hulk/Loki in Stark Tower. (I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it).

Just one quick question. At any point in the film does Loki dress like this?!

He comes close.

It was good popcorn entertainment. I'm really looking forward to Dark Knight Rises but Avengers was a good warm up for the summer season.

"Hulk? Smash."

It was pretty awesome. It felt like it took a while to get warmed up until the final battle. But overall pretty good.

No, because we're happy about anything ever.

Avengers' main accomplishment is taking four characters who starred in their own awesome movies, and blending them into a massively awesome ensemble piece.

Of the ensemble, the Hulk is truly the main attraction, especially since Mark Ruffalo is PLAYING THE HULK.

For the first time since his film debut, Hulk is not a CGI-only monstrosity moving and looking too cartoony to take seriously.
His movements, his facial expressions, even the way his muscles ripple looks HUMAN...just really really really....big.

And his dialogue as the Hulk is amazing in its simplicity, the closest adaptation to his pre-Planet Hulk personality ever.

Avengers succeeds in the area that made Iron Man the best superhero movie up to that time: HUMOR.
We care about these people because, beyond anything else, we share in their ups and downs.

It's the main reason I'm enjoying the Batman revival films less and less.
I got enough emo superhero to last a lifetime with Spider-Man 3 alone.

The movie was fantastic (although parts of the city battle at the end sorta reminded me of transformers 3). Captain America (my favorite) proved to be well represented.

Honestly, though, I enjoyed the Dark Knight preview before the movie almost as much.

I totally agree with everything in this post(aren't you thrilled? ). The humor in the movie was perfectly timed, not cheesy...fit really well exactly as it was. And I thought Ruffalo was an excellent Banner. He did a solid job, and not being a big name allowed the Hulk to be the star, unlike the Norton version.

I took my oldest with me to see it today. I loved it. Hulk was my favorite character. "I'm always angry." I liked the way they worked the heroes together and I loved the transformations of both Tony Stark and Banner/The Hulk.

My favorite lines were "Hulk? Smash." and "Puny little God."
