MAD?? - May 11th, 2012, 09:46 PM

A christian nearly 34 years and i have not heard of MAD until today.

Assured that it is not Mutually Assured Destruction (my attempt at a joke) can anyone explain or give me a link to a definition?

I may know it by another name, but the name here given, MAD, means nothing to me

It is a hyper-dispensational view that I had also not heard of until TOL. I am an Acts 2 disp (more biblical, moderate in my opinion).

I never heard of the term until here. It is just a description of what the Bible teaches if go past Acts 2 and don't pick up at the Revelation.

It is what Bullinger, not Bible, teaches.

Bullinger was hyper-disp, not MAD. I have my isms, but I hope they are biblical (they are on the essentials). No one is infallible, but I can safely say that MAD is unbiblical (not on all things, but the gist of it).

Anyway my best way to describe its differences from a more standard approach to understanding the bible and the Gospel.
  • that there at at least two basic gospels in the new testament one for the
  • One for Jews, one for the gentiles
  • all Jesus teaching was for the Jews so is pretty much redundant for gentile believers today
  • Pauls teaching is what is relevant for Christians today
  • Very strong emphasis on grace
  • Very weak emphasis outworking your salvation
  • Rejection of Baptism
  • Literalistic view of end times teaching and old testament prophecy
  • Very interested in 'dividing' the bible, and drawing distinctions
  • Cessationists

I don't agree with them at all on just about anything.

MAD has no bearing on Cessationism... maybe you should let an actual MADist make the bullet points.

It wont be me, but just sayin...

Actually, MAD does seem to support cessationism vs its principles...or is it just the TOL MADists who are so anti-Pentecostal. STP, etc. says I reject MAD in order to retain Penty ideas and that if I would be willing to reject Penty, I could embrace MAD. I think cessationism is germane to hyper-disp views.

Does not Enyart's 'The Plot' link MAD paradigm with resolving the issue of cessationism vs continuationism? Is this not one of the 10 controversies MAD supposedly resolves? I agree with some vs all of his 10 points, but it is case by case based on exegesis and theology, not the magic of MAD as a simplistic solution (that just begs the question and adds one more controversy to the mix).
