Amen!
This anniversary deserves a thread (and much more remembrance)!
My husband and I were just talking about the horrors of that day and how little media has said about it, other than the production of a few movies.
We are older and were born just prior to those days, but neither of us had a family member or friend who participated in the Normandy Invasion, and perhaps the lack of first-hand witnesses to this day, is the result of how few of those who were actually sent to invade those beaches, ever came back!
So . . . for any out there who did lose loved ones, who might be reading, please know that even though we did not experience a personal tragedy such as yours, and even though Normandy tends to be romanticized and dramatized, more than remembered with actual facts deserving reverent thanksgiving, there are some still alive right now, who remember and appreciate the human sacrifice that took event then and achieved the downfall of the gross tyranny of the time, that has given us freedom in these last few decades.

D-Day was the culmination of Christian nations warring with one another, Christian killing Christian, just like the family feud of World War I. If you're going to attempt to honor those who served do them the courtesy of getting your facts straight first.

Christianity has nothing applicable, appropriate, or worthwhile to offer the 21st century.

What our men were up against was nothing even close to fighting a Christian nation so just where in the world do you get you're facts?

I'm sure that Hungary, Romania, Germany, Italy, and other European Axis powers would all be surprised to hear they weren't familiar with Christianity and I'm equally sure that those believers who fought and died for the Axis powers would be a little surprised to hear that Christianity was foreign to them, too. "Gott mit uns" wasn't a typo.
This intracine element of both world wars made them even more tragic. When it comes to (at least) the European theater these wars were fought amongst brethern, which compounds how senseless they were.

I think most right thinking people would not describe Nazi Germany as a Christian nation.
A knowledge of Christianity makes one no more a Christian than a knowledge of Marx makes one a communist.
A Christian nation must be one which at least attempts to live out the doctrines, and philosophies central to the teaching of Christ. It would be a bizarre reading of history that would suggest Nazi Germany was attempting to do that in any way.

A Christian nation hijacked by madmen, if you like. To suggest that it was a war of believers versus heathens is a complete misreading of history. That was my point.

I would agree with that point, I really question the concept of 'Christian nation' at all.
My reading of the NT makes me believe Christians belong to a kingdom which is not of this world, but is of a world to come, and though God supports Kingdoms as lawlessness is a great evil, they are not his chosen instruments.
If we believe our nations are 'Christian' we delude ourselves.
