2,000 years? Bad math. - June 8th, 2012, 01:58 PM

In 2033 it will have been 2,000 years since Jesus was crucified. Yet I frequently see and hear pious people make statements like "over 2,000 years ago Jesus died for the sins of the world". Now if people can't do simple math then I figure they shouldn't be doing tough things like tackling the meaning of Scripture.

Just write if off as a rounding error. Besides, compared to the number of people who thought the year 2000 was the start of the new millennium, a little rounding error is nothing.

Rounding error? 21 years? Hardly.

I've never heard anyone say that (or seen anyone write it either.)

I will be sure to state the exact year next time as to not upset Esset and those like her. I will then endeavor to remove "sunset" from my vocabulary as any idiot can figure out that the sun does not set but merely the earth is revolving.

Gahhhhhh... making me read all that comic sans again... anyway, I see "2000 odd years" and "some 2000 years" in that but no claims that it was exactly or over 2000 years ago.

You are quibbling. It talks about the second coming being 2,000 years ago.
