And yet they covered it up for decades. And they are still trying to deny and dismiss a lot of it. I think you're the one who needs to "get real".

My main problem with the RCC is that it continually gives safe shelter to nuns and priests that have been convicted of crimes against humanity, both by country and by the Hague... it's Pope and cardinals also hide behind the veil of diplomatic immunity.

If the RCC were subject to the laws of the land (just like very other sect), there would be a lot less clamor when the Pope or his minions do terrible things, because they would be subject to justice.
Although we are called as Christians to forgive the Pope and his henchman, the scriptures also tell us that supposed leaders much be above reproach and also willingly submit themselves to the governments (because they are placed there by Jesus) to make recompense for their crimes against fellow humans (they are also supposed to pay double damages).
What? The Pope and his henchmen? Are we back in the dark ages?

and 1 in 4 girls is

and that it is usually FAMILY or close family friends how molest them...

no one seems to care about those children..

but when one wants to scapegoat the Church... well, all the sudden...

No, we were very somber while attending Mass. But, I have gone to a couple of Pentecostal churches and saw a bit of what you're talking about. There was a snake handling church nearby when I lived in Virginia. Copperheads...quite odd if you ask me, and I never felt led to attend.

What reason would I have to lie? Really? I'm relating exactly how it was when I attended Catholic school. I was even confirmed. We had to get a little token slap on the cheek, which I can tell you I wasn't that comfortable with.

Oh, and the Missals. I'd forgotten about those. I don't recall too many people reading anything.....mostly just waiting to kneel, stand or sit, depending on where we were in the Mass. We went up and down quite a bit with that ritual. Not that I minded at the time.

My goodness, you sound like a very angry Catholic.

I don't have any recollection of other angry Catholics. I had this one friend...they had 10 kids, the dad was going to be a priest but had a family instead...great, kind, loving people they were. I spent a lot of time with that family. Thanks for bringing them to mind. Anyway, I guess you're the first angry Catholic I've been witness to.

Well, I had lots of friends, and I can guarantee I wasn't the only one who made up sins. Do you honestly think any teenager is going to tell the priest what he is really up to? Perhaps you're being willfully ignorant on that topic...I couldn't say.

This isn't the kind of thing decent human beings sweeps under the rug. And we also aren't talking about a few errant priests, we're talking about whole institutions (in Australia and Ireland) where children were routinely abused by a staff of priests, nuns, and lay functionaries. It was just 'how things were done'.
That's just a sign of a religion rather that saving faith.

The RCC doesn't exactly have a clean track record. Genocide, war, child abuse, tax evasion, assisting criminals of the state, extortion, and unjust use of donated funds are a few good reasons. I personally don't hate the church. I just pity it. It used to own a large part of the Italian Peninsula, and was a driving force in the world for centuries. Now they have lost some of their former influence. Not a lot, but enough that inquisitions and masses en-mass are a rare occurrence if it all. However, I do applaud them for sticking it out through all the hate and aggression against the established Church over the years, and am interested to see how much longer before they start to fully address the issue of other branches interfering in their ability to control others.

Sorry. Once again, you're wrong. I (and several others here, on TOL) believe that anyone who molests a child should be executed for his/her crime. I get mad whenever I hear about a child being molested, whether it is done by a priest or a teacher or a parent or whomever. I can't speak for anyone else. But, the reason I got mad at the church about the molestations by priests was because we found out that the church (or it's ranking officers) tried to hide what had happened to these children instead of either making the molesters face the consequences of their choices to commit crimes or protecting future children from being molested by these priests.
