Colorado Movie Theater Shooting - July 20th, 2012, 06:34 AM

"Police said the gunman had appeared at the front of the theater during the movie and released a canister which let out a hissing sound, which is believed to be tear gas. Witnesses told reporters that gunfire erupted during a shootout scene in the film.

"Jennifer Seeger, who was inside the Aurora, Colo., movie theater where a gunman opened fire early Friday, describes the scene of the shooting as 'mass chaos.'

'It was mass chaos,'* witness Jennifer Seeger told TODAY. 'He was five feet away from me.'

The gunman shot the ceiling and then 'he threw in the gas can, and then I knew it was real,' Seeger added."

Ironic Traditio: I despearately hope that this was a practical joke on the part of the shooter; if so, I think that he's made an excellent parady of the Dark Knight series in general. When questioned, I hope that the suspect gives the only logical answer: "Why so serious?"

Christian Traditio: This is terrible. I hope that those wounded recover and are able to get past this, and I hope that the families find consolation in their grief. May the suspect find the grace of conversion and penance; may the dead rest in peace. We should keep all involved in our prayers.

This is in TOL's backyard. TOL's very own Lion is a cop on the scene. At last count there were 14 dead and many more injured. And some of the friends I've made here could have been there. That's a discomforting thought.

I can't see irony at the moment, only heartbreak.

This was horrifying news to wake up to this morning. They said on TV that children and a baby were among the dead. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this, and my prayers go up for the souls of the departed and the grief-stricken loved ones left to deal with their senseless loss.

I saw on the news that one guy sent in a comment to the news that he was in a nearby theatre in which the same movie was being played. And his comment basically seemed to come down to: "That was right next door! It could have been me!"

I'd like to preface this by saying that I've only seek the dark knight movie with the Joker; the one that ends with the two boats at the end, where neither one of them decides to blow up the other.

But from my understanding: the Dark Knight is all about chaotic supervillains who are just out there to create chaos and turn the fabric of society upside down.

The fact that someone committed this kind of crime at the midnight showing of a Dark Knight movie very much seems to be consistent with the general spirit of the villains of the series.

"Why so serious" is the catchphrase of the joker. That's why I hope that the suspect answers that way. Because that means that it really will have been a practical joke.
