Some may say it's Michael Phelps. Others my say it's Carl Lewis. I submit its Jesse Owens. For those who don't know who Jesse Owens is, I link the following resources:

Jesse Owens is overrated. He participated in just one Olympic Games. That's not enough to be the greatest Olympian.

For the British it is Sir Steve Redgrave, the only Olympain to win a gold in an endurance sport at 5 consecutive Olympic games. A very different achievement to that of Phelps

I also didn't say it had to be Summer Olympics, how about Ice Dancers Torvill and Dean? Their performance to Bolero is spectacular.
