Talking Chess Sneeze - August 18th, 2012, 01:54 AM

I think this is the longest forced mate I've ever pulled off.

It starts at about move 27, and carries on to move 51!

It was a speed-chess game, so we both made some real boners,
and as a result, both missed some nice forks and other obvious choices.
I think it might not be completely forced, as he had one chance to break out
when I lost the check in the middle. Also tough to analyse the options,
no time to play them out in head during game.

Chess Break: 25 move semi Forced Mate!

27. Ra3 Bxg3

I didn't know why he retreated his rook, but pressed on:
From here I sacrificed a bishop to rip open his castle.
I was unsure if I really had anything.

Now I was hoping to either trap him or trade off the queens,
and take a chance on the endgame. He was as slippery as
a piece of soap! I couldn't sustain the checks, and thought
the tables might turn at any moment....

I chased his king all the way to mine,
but still couldn't see how to pin him down in the smoke of battle:

43. Kxf7 Rf4+
44. Ke6 Rf6+
45. Kd5 Nb6+
46. Kxe5 Qd6+
47. Ke4 Rf4+
48. Ke3 Qe5+
49. Kd3 Qd4+
50. Ke2 Rf2+
51. Ke1 Qd2# 0-1

Finally, after chasing him all the way back to his side,
I squashed him into the back row.
I had to figure out an enclosing technique with queen and rook,
on the fly! You almost never get to do these things in games,
because the mate comes too quickly or the player resigns.

Not a great game I admit, but really fun!

Still, it was so cool, I put an animated version of it here
at the bottom of my page:
