Believe it or not, I agree with you for the most part. I would just add two words to the beginning of your sentence: "For some,". I would also include certain Protestant faiths have also suffered persecution. Mormons, who I do not consider as Christian, have a history of persecution against them. But number one on the list of hated religions has to be the Jewish faith. Both of my parents were prejudiced against Jews (which is strange since my aunt is Jewish), and also Italians, Germans, Blacks and Protestants. My father was a WWII vet of the Pacific Theater and seemed to have great respect for Pacific Islanders, especially the people native to The Philippines. As far as I remember, they held no prejudice against Mexicans, South Americans or other Spanish or Portuguese speaking people. Prejudice is hard to explain sometimes. Fortunately, I believe it has skipped me, at least I hope so.

Prejudice is often based more on politics than anything else.

I respectfully disagree. Politics has nothing to do with prejudice against Blacks, Native Americans, Chinese, Japanese, Middle East people, et al. The common denominator is how they look.
Those of you, like me, who like to watch old movies on TCM, have you noticed the prejudice in the movies from the '30s and '40s? An old mystery called "The Penguin Pool Murder" has a negative stereotypical comment against a Jewish student by his teacher taking her students on a field trip. And the numerous instances of "black face" are just too numerous to list. From a historical perspective, these movies should be preserved. But I hate the hurt they must have caused to Jews, Blacks, Japanese, Chinese, et al. It's a shameful period of the Hollywood film industry. But every once in a while you get a glimpse of the future. TV shows like The Lone Ranger, The Cisco Kid, Alfred Hitchcock, Route 66, Perry Mason, et al. where just some of the shows I remember with positive portrayals of ethnics in film and TV.

What about prejudice(prejudging) against whites? That is by far the most common.
[pretendo- liba- rant]Come now, you know better than that, its only prejudice when its against a minority group.
There is no such thing as reverse discrimination - and even if it 'appears' to occur, its "understandable" because of what those groups have suffered. [/sarcasm]

Yet there has been discrimination in U.S. history against the Irish, Germans, Russians, Greeks and various eastern European nationalities. Most of which can be linked to the 2 great waves of Immigration into the United States. With immigration we see a rise in hostility to new-commers due to increased competition for various resources including but not limited to jobs and housing. Prejudice was strongest amongst the middle and lower classes, because those were the people most desperate to cling to what livelihood they had.
The Irish in particular have even at one point been considered a different race.
Prejudice against the Japanese is really prominent after the attack on Peal Harbor. The number of lynchings of black folk during a given month (at the beginning of the 19th century) could be predicted fairly accurately based on what the cotton prices were at that particular time. Prejudice is nearly always based on or at least contributed to by the political and economic climate of the time.

Agreed.
Case in point. The BET network.
When in the forseeable future can you see a time in which the White Entertainment Network would be allowed?
What about the Asian Entertainment Network?
Why is it socially acceptable to discriminate against Whites and not Blacks or anyone else?
I am NOT suggesting we should discriminate at all against anyone. I am simply pointing out the double standard.

The victim mentality is rife in this thread. None of you have any idea what it's like to be truly discriminated against (myself included) so stop your whining. Most people in the world would kill to have the kind of opportunities that we have.
