What does it mean to be in Christ?
#1. If you are in Christ, you are a new creation.
2 Corinthians 5:17 - “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Ephesians 2:10 - "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
#2. If you are in Christ, you are dead to sin to the point where you do not habitually sin or remain unrepentant sin.
Romans 6:11 - “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord”
1 John 3:4-10 - "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."
Galatians 5:24 - "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts."
#3. If you are in Christ, the fruits of the Spirit will be visibly manifested in your life.
Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
1 John 5:12 - "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
AMEN Jason, if Christ is in us we find peace and contentment. We turn from wanting to giving.
Psalm 1[/color] and Job 28:28
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Joh 4:23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
"To be in Christ葉hat is redemption; but for Christ to be in you葉hat is sanctification! To be in Christ葉hat makes you fit for heaven; but for Christ to be in you葉hat makes you fit for earth! To be in Christ葉hat changes your destination; but for Christ to be in you葉hat changes your destiny! The one makes heaven your home葉he other makes this world His workshop."
"How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?" Gal. 3:3

Is salvation conditional on the number of times a man commits adultery? How many times does the man get to commit adultery before it's considered habitual sin? Consider that Adam and Eve had to leave the garden and mankind fell due to one woman eating from one forbidden tree one time.
I have liberty to be seen as a failure by you while being seen as a son by my Father.

Dear D:
I am not condoning the occasional sin either. God calls us to be Holy and to stop our sinning. For there are sins that lead unto death (i.e. spiritual death) (1 John 5:16) (Revelation 21:8). In fact, there are particular sins under certain situations that God has hated so much that He had immediately had destroyed their flesh and sent them to Hell. One such example would be Ananais and Sapphira.
Anyways, what I am saying is that if a Christian does make a mistake like David had done, they have God's grace to go to. In other words, they can confess their sins to God and get their heart right with Him again (1 John 1:9).

How do you explain Hebrews 6:6 and Hebrews 10:26 in light of that? And wouldn't having received God's mercy have prevented them from doing that?

Dear D:
Christians are not given a license or an exemption to sin. If they sin a sin leading unto death and do not confess those sins and change their ways, they will die spiritually in unrepented sin.
Hebrews 6:6 is talking about falling away from the faith (i.e. apostatizing) and not falling into sin. For some Jewish believers wanted to go back to the Jewish religion temporarily to avoid persecution as Christians. However, the author of Hebrews was saying that if you had a deep spiritual walk with God and then reject the faith of Jesus by going to another religion, there is no turning back. In verse 9, the author of Hebrews was persuaded of better things for them. So this was not a hypothetical scenario he was describing.
Hebrews 10:26 is talking about falling into a sin to the point of no return. That if a believer sins and does not choose to turn away from their sins and come back to walking with the Lord in righteousness, then they will be in danger of dying in unconfessed sin.
In fact, according to the Scripture all past sins are forgiven. Not future sins. There is no verse in the Bible that says future sins are forgiven. Now, it is important to point out that when you read 1 John 1:7, Mark 3:28, Colossians 2:13 that says "all sins are forgiven" you have to understand that this is a neutral statement that could be read from either the Biblical Conditional viewpoint and or the OSAS (Once Saved Always Saved) viewpoint. However, the scales are tipped in favor for the Biblical Conditional viewpoint as Scripture teaches because it has repeatedly made it clear that only past sins are forgiven and not future sins.
2 Peter 1:9 NIV- "But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins."
2 Peter 1:9 ESV - "For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins."
2 Peter 1:9 KJV - "But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins."
In other words, 2nd Peter 1:9 makes it clear that it is former or past sins have been forgiven, and not future sins. This is confirmed to us in the following verses as well.
Romans 3:25 - "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"
Hebrews 10:26 - "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"
So how are future sins forgiven if there are no more sacrifice for sins if we willfully sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth?
In other words, if there remains no more sacrifice if we sin, we must therefore then confess our sins (1 John 1:9).
If you claim to have freewill and you believe these things then every sin you commit is wilful. According to this doctrine you lose your salvation seven times a day. Sin unto death is physical death. We are made one spirit with the Lord...how then can God send His Son to hell?
Why didn't Paul warn that man at Corinth that he was in danger of damnation? surely it was his duty to warn such a one.

Paul warned himself about weakness in his own flesh__to keep it under subjection [whats that all about, locknut], lest he fall and become a castaway__as in reprobate. Learn, will ya!

Well I shall be careful not to learn from someone who makes the word of God say what he wants it to say, even if it means adding a word or two to make it say the opposite.
The word means reject as in one who fails to win the prize, this whole subject of Paul deals with rewards not salvation. But you won't learn, God will not teach somebody who DELIBERATELY turns His word into a lie. Who taught you to do that?
The First thing it means is to be Chosen in Him before the Foundation Eph 1:4
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Thats foundational !
Rom 2:28-29
28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
If you claim to have freewill and you believe these things then every sin you commit is wilful. According to this doctrine you lose your salvation seven times a day.
Dear TL:
First, there are sins that lead unto death and there are sins that do not lead unto death (1 John 5:16). The sins that do not lead unto death are falling short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and hidden or secret faults (Psalms 19:12). Also, there is a spiritual death mentioned in the Bible; It goes by the name of the "Second Death", which is the Lake of Fire (Revelation 21:8). So we should expect to see references for the words "death" 'die" and "dead" in relation to spiritual death in both the Old and the New Testaments then.
Secondly, I can personally attest that there are many days I have not sinned a sin unto death. However, if I do slip up, I have God's grace and Spirit to fall back upon to confess that sin and to then ask for help in overcoming that sin. In fact, I had a particular sin that was an addiction in my life before I renewed my faith in the Lord. However, with the help of Jesus, He had helped me to overcome that sin. There was no way I could have done this on my own (if I even wanted to). However, we should look to the life of Jesus as our example and not a person's life such as my own, though. Our focus and model is always Jesus and His teachings within His Word.
If we were to read the context of the epistles of John there is no valid basis that 1 John 5:16 is talking about physical death at all. On the contrary if you were to look in 1st John chapter 5 you would see this.
1 John 5:18-19 - "We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness."
What do we learn from this passage?
#1. A person born of God sins not. Meaning they do not remain in sin.
#2. The rest of the world lies in wickedness. Wickedness is sin, not unbelief (according to these passages). In other words, if a believer lies in wickedness like the world they are not a person born of God.
Let's also look at chapter 3, too.
1 John 3:7-8 - "Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil."
Did you catch that?
#1. We are warned to not be deceived concerning the matter of righteousness. If you do that which righteous you are righteous.
#2. He that commits sin is of the devil. Where does the devil end up? In the Second Death (i.e. the Lake of Fire) with all other people who serve the devil by yielding themselves to sin instead of God.
#3. Purpose of the Son of God was manifested to destroy the works of the devil.
In other words, it comes down to this...
1 John 5:12 - "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
1 John 2:3-4 - "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."
Therefore, in the context of these passages it is clear that 1 John 5:16 is talking about spiritual death and not physical death. For anyone who commits sin is of the devil.
