PROTEST WITHIN THE LAW
Note: What you are about to read was submitted to the Colorado Springs Teen Court program as part of my sentence for an act of civil disobedience.
Nobel Peace Prize winner and famous American author Elie Wiesel said that, “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” In this essay, I will present two views of what embodies protest within the law and argue for the active involvement of American citizens to perform their duty to their Constitution and consciences through the pursuit of peaceful protest in order to achieve a higher level of social justice.
The traditional view of ‘protest within the law’ argues that the protester may petition as long as he does not violate a legal ordinance at any level. The First Amendment of the Constitution codifies what has been interpreted in American jurisprudence as citizen’s right to protest within the law when it says, “Congress shall make no law...abridging the... Some people have favorite radio stations. They keep the stations on the presets and like to skip around to their favorites. I mostly despair for my generation as I hear the music, but still scan in hopes of some lonely song that doesn’t reek like an old corpse.
I’m from Denver, so I’m going to use Denver radio as my baseline example. Starting low on the dial, we have classical radio, for when I want to fall asleep at the wheel, crash into a tree, be thrown through the windshield and fly through the back window of a schoolbus, terrifying and permanently scarring the children inside said bus. Really though, there is so much good classical music out there, and it’s like this public radio garbage finds only the most monotonous and boring classical stuff out there. Try a little harder!
That brings us to the the public talk radio stations. I'd rather feed myself to dolphins than listen to public radio. People with nothing to say who think that they do in fact have something to say. Scanning forward, we have a mix of country, pop and hip hop. Well there’s a... [Read More]

» HISTORIC DAY FOR UNIVERSAL PERSONHOOD AS COLORADO AND MISSISSIPPI TURN IN SIGNATURES |
|
Feb 15, 2010 - 3:20 PM - by Knight
|

COLORADO
DENVER / Christian Newswire / February 12 – Personhood Colorado submitted signatures to the Secretary of State’s office today for the Colorado Personhood Amendment. The signatures submitted totaled 79,817, although only 76,047 were required. All signatures are pending validation by the Colorado Secretary of State’s office.
“We are thrilled with these results. These signatures represent thousands of hours of hard work,” remarked Gualberto Garcia-Jones, co-sponsor of the amendment. “All of our volunteers are 100% committed to seeing that the dignity and personhood of preborn babies is recognized in Colorado, and it shows.”
The proposed amendment states “Section 32. Person defined. As used in sections 3*, 6**, and 25*** of Article II of the state constitution, the term “person” shall apply to every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being.”
The signature campaign had hundreds of churches that petitioned repeatedly, along with over 1,000... [Read More]

» The 2009 TOL Posts of the Year Awards |
|
Dec 21, 2009 - 4:23 PM - by Knight

The biggest event of the year!

January 1st is the day of the biggest event of the year on TheologyOnline.com, yes, it's the 2009 Posts of the Year awards with your host, Knight (that's me). As you know every year (since 2002) I countdown the greatest posts made on TOL every year. You may ask yourself "how are these posts picked"? Well, the picking goes something like this.... I round-up all the Post of the Day picks that I have made each year and then I order them by the ones I think are the very best and so on. I also may pick posts that weren't picked as Posts of the Day yet are still worthy of being awarded a Post of the Year. So just because you haven't had a Post of the Day doesn't mean you will not get a Post of the Year!
Throughout the day on January 1st 2010 (and in this thread) I will be slowly releasing the winners. I will also be placing every winning selection in this post so you can easily find all of this years winner.
Before we get started you may want to take a trip down memory lane..... ... [Read More]

» Christian Group Questions Palin's Pro-life Credentials |
|
Nov 17, 2009 - 4:36 PM - by Knight
|

Denver, Colorado, Nov. 16 -- A political 527 group, which claims responsibility for derailing Mitt Romney's presidential hopes in 2008 in the early-contest states of Iowa and South Carolina, is now targeting Sarah Palin. But for what?
ProlifeProfiles.com, created by a nationwide research team working for American Right To Life, is being launched today highlighting Sarah Palin's surprisingly extensive and unflattering record on abortion.
As Palin's "Going Rogue" is being published, Darrell Birkey, research director for American RTL Action, said that if rogue, "still means misleading and unreliable, then we should add Palin's entire book to her dossier at ProlifeProfiles.com."
In 2007 the nation's oldest "RTL" group, Colorado Right To Life, then a state affiliate of National RTL, issued a press release: "Rift Opens in Christian Right." Two and a half years later, that rift has become a chasm. Thirty-three states have... [Read More]
