Personally (ironically enough), I think the person (and his/her voting record) is far more important than any political party. I think if we looked at the track record for most politicians they would be fairly inconsistent in toeing the party lines. I would also say that any politician that always toed the party line is a lazy, intellectually unvirtuous and disingenuous person and politician who is dangerous due to an apparent inability to act and think as an individual.

Parties have some usefulness, but I think less so than they used to.

The only difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is about 20 years.

Vote for the individual who best represents your values.

Up until the last few years I've voted for the person. But now that the democrats are running amok with their socialist agenda, I always vote 'anti-democrat'. We have a republican representative here, and I vote against him in the primaries, but for him in the general election. I don't want Pelosi getting one more vote on her side. But if for some reason if I had to vote either for a pro-choice republican or a pro-life democrat... I'd either vote for the democrat or not at all. Depends on how the rest of the country was going. If Pelosi isn't in power or close to it, I would vote for a conservative democrat over a liberal republican.
