Why Drug Laws are wrong

Love your neighbor as yourself. Mark 12:31

Do unto others what you would have them do unto you. Luke 6:31.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9.

As much as it depends on you, live at peace with all men. Romans 12:18

Strive not with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm. Proverbs 3:30.

Most Christians today use Romans 13:1-7 to say that these ethical precepts (and others, I did not provide an exhaustive list above), apply "only to individuals" and not to governments. But Deuteronomy 17:14-20 binds even kings to obey the law.

Some Christians will call upon the command to "punish evil" as an excuse for punishing drug use. Yet, drunkenness was specifically mentioned as a sin in the OT, yet never criminalized. Furthermore, while drugs are an intoxicating substance and thus presumably immoral, God never criminalized them even in the OT theocracy. Modern Christians are actually being more authoritarian than the theocracy on this issue. Do you guys think you are better than God?

No, not every element of OT law was intended for today, but that does not give you license to just make any laws you want and control other people's freedom. It is amazing that conservatives who are supposedly for small government and for letting people make their own choices have hangups on this issue.

Enforcing these laws is not loving your neighbor either. Christians should refuse to support or enforce these laws, and they should not "serve" as police in an immoral society that seeks to control such personal behavior. Drugs are evil, but drug laws are more evil.

 reason for there being drug laws

 no reason there for drug laws being wrong

why ?
Christians should refuse to support or enforce these laws, and they should not "serve" as police in an immoral society that seeks to control such personal behavior.
why not support drug laws ?
Drugs are evil, but drug laws are more evil.
drugs are evil rest ... unproven

It is a common belief that speed limits "keep us safe", but the reality is that everyone, including the police, speed. "speeding" is a victimless crime in that nobody is intrinsically harmed by it.

As for drug laws, I gave you tons of reasons and you ignored them. YOu aren't doing unto others if you threaten having police lock your neighbors in a rape cage for having a plant.

Drug laws have created a wonderful prison industrial complex. This industry soaks up billions of tax dollars, turns millions of people into unemployable indigents and lines the pockets of criminal dynasties with the money to buy politicians. What's not to like about that? :idunno:

Drugs are the cause of many other crimes and misery for the user's family. Those who think that drug use is a victimless crime are naive to the maximum. The real world for drug use is very ugly and violent. In short, drug use is a nightmare for humanity.

So true. Now that Jr. has left us to rejoin the drug pushers, pedophiles, pederasts, pornographers (kiddy porn included) and abortionists at his favorite Libertarian forum, who will fill in his shoes?

GFR7/WizardofOz, step up and refute what journey just said.

No need to LOL. I don't know who Aaron is, and anyone with reason and Christian values on his side knows the drug war is a farce. This does not effect my feelings on no fault divorce, radical feminism, the rainbow agenda, etc.

Drug use can be illegal (I think much of it should be) without handling it the way our criminal justice system does. If you doubt this, research it, you big, big, dummy. :wave2:

Now that you are the spokesperson for TOL's Libertarian movement Aaron, do tell us how you would go about dealing with ruthless people who traffic recreational drugs and those who use them (who steal, rob and murder to keep their habit going) without incarceration.

Let me guess:

Time-outs?

we should model our drug policies after those used in singapore - harsh swift penalties for dealing, possession and use

It can be argued many ways, here is one example:

What one may also argue is that is splits the lower class into those a notch above the unemployable indigents, to being able to earn a living wage, with warehousing the unemployable indigents.
It is not always an argument only applicable to the wealthiest. In Texas, the CO has a job tops anything else he, or she would be qualified, wage and benefits.

Mao Tse-tung managed to get 20 million Chinese off opium by executing dealers and threatening to shoot those who continued using. Chairman Mao -- "the greatest drug-addiction therapist in history" -- understood that opium use was a lifestyle choice -- not an epidemic like the plague -- and while one may disagree with his methods, one cannot quibble over the results. If all that is required to cure the disease of addiction is a threat then we cannot be looking at a very serious "disease."

My point, either you are a Christian, or you are not, and if not, you can do like Mao, Hitler, and Stalin.
