I read an article today that said Bezos has passed Bill Gates as the world's richest man, at $106 billion of net worth. I'd like to put this into some perspective.
A talent of gold in Jewish/Hebrew measures weighed 250 lbs. A talent of silver weighed in at 120 lbs. So, David's savings account that he had created exclusively to build the temple had 25 million lbs of gold and 120 million lbs of silver. What is that worth today? Today's spot price for gold is $1319.67 per troy ounce. The spot price for silver today was $17.20 per troy ounce. And there are 14.5833 troy ounces to the pound. That means David had saved up $481,128,587,775 worth of gold, and $30,099,931,200s worth of silver. That adds up to $511,228,518,975 worth of gold and silver. That is more than a half trillion dollars. That right there is almost 5 times Bezos' net worth. Plus David had so much brass and iron set aside that they had no way of measuing the weight. And he had set aside timber--cedar--and quarried stone also. What was the total value? Who knows, but I would bet it puts David's net worth well beyond 5 times that of Bezos'. And that is just what David had set aside to build the temple. He had a great amount of wealth beyond this because he supported his entire army and all of his retinue including his sons and daughters.
This must be why he underpays his help and works them half to death.
IChronicles 22: 14 Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the Lord an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.
