Parents charged in son’s crime

I thought this made sense, until I realized they were charging the kid as an adult. Thus, they are saying both that he’s responsible for what he did and he’s not responsible for what he did.

If he’s an adult, then he has the right to own a gun, right? And that he understands the weight of his decisions and actions? Seems like the prosecution shot themselves in the foot on it, pun only slightly intended.

Odd case. I'd think that if the kid is charged as an adult his parents wouldn't be. But those two going on the run really seems to imply they had a hand in these shootings somehow.

From the article: “I want to be really clear that these charges are meant to hold the individuals who contributed to this tragedy accountable and also send a message that gun owners have a responsibility,” McDonald said at a Friday presser. “When they fail to uphold that responsibility, there are serious and criminal consequences.”

A fugitive apprehension team has been deployed to locate the parents of alleged school shooter Ethan Crumbley who have disappeared after being charged with involuntary manslaughter. James and Jennifer Crumbley were charged on Friday, days after their teen son allegedly shot and killed four classmates at Oxford High School. The pair allegedly gave their son access to the gun, did not secure it in the home, ignored warning signs from their son, and did not cooperate with school investigations into his concerning behavior, Oakland County Prosector Karen McDonald said.

They’re definitely acting suspicious. And it seems like they were negligent at the least. I’m just saying that once the prosecutors choose adult status for the boy, the parents should then become accomplices, if anything. The unintentional homicide label just doesn’t seem to fit, when the boy is tried as an adult.
