MadebyJimBob vs Dr. Ron Garret; Debate Afterthoughts

I was somewhat disappointed that JimBob off the bat, defines God as "a transcendent mind". Is he a Christian or isn't he? What kind of game is this?

I would say JimBob definitely presents some worthwhile content and arguments on his YouTube channel. But I think his debate tactics are garbage and I think more Christians should speak up about this actually. We shouldn't be doing these high profile debates if we don't even care enough about the person we are engaging with to even try to listen to what he has to say.

Do you have a link to the debate?

Are we trying to bring people to the Lord or are we only trying to gain social media "clout"? I think somebody should say something to him. Nobody is perfect but this isn't the first time.

His opening was mostly about the Transcendental Argument for God, which is q very strong position to start with.

@VladtheDestroyer I wonder what your thoughts are on this debate...

Personally, I think Chris (whom I'm personally acquainted with) won the debate against Matt Slick. (Though, I might be biased, haha.)

As of about an hour in, I will say, MadeByJimBob does seem to lose his temper a couple of times in the debate. It's not a good look for him, even if his position is structurally sound.

Lol, hour and four in, and Dr. Garret just completely concedes the debate topic!

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

I remember this one! I love Chris Fisher, I think he's great! 😆

I know the moderator kept telling Chris that he was taking too many jabs at Slick or whatever. I don't care so much about that when it's 2 Christians debating each other. As fun as it was to watch Chris make Matt's head explode, I am sure they will be best friends in heaven someday.

But I think we should sometimes take steps to be more considerate in our behaviour when engaging with people who are not one of us. Sometimes I worry that social media has made it easy for people to dehumanize themselves and others. And God doesn't necessarily need any of us to win debates on YouTube for Him.

Because there is no debate. There is only the person that Jesus wants to save. It's easy for me to play arm-chair quarterback but I think JimBob missed out on a great opportunity in his debate with Ron, again for the second time, so I want to be critical of that. There is no doubt in my mind that JimBob loves the Lord.

Recently I caught Chris Fisher drinking a Bell's Two-Hearted Ale on his livestream. That is one of the most excellent beer's in the world. Germany has been trying to catch up with the USA when it comes to IPAs. Maisel & Friends has done a pretty good job of it with their German IPA:

*edited out a double negative to make it more clear that I believe JimBob does in fact love the Lord*

Appeal to authority is only good when it's my guy(s) 🤣

Well i think the more important point Ron was making is that we have to agree on the meaning of the words we use. And that is actually congruent with some of what Chris was also trying to explain to Slick in their debate, if I remember correctly, because Calvinists often try to frame a debate as though one has to be a Calvinist to understand what words mean. And that's kinda an important point actually.

That is a very common tactic. If you get to define words, you get to tilt the table in your favor.

Like when evolutionists try to redefine evolution as simply "change over time".
