Basic Christian Disciplines
• Read your bible every day.
• Pray every day.
• Go to church.
• Tithe 10% of your gross, not your net.

While reading your bible, ask yourself the following:
• Is there a commandment I need to put into practice?
• Is there a promise I need to claim?
• Is there a prayer I need to echo?
• Is there a habit I should begin?
• Is there a behavior I must change?
• Is there a sin I need to forsake?
• How can I be more like Jesus because of my study of these verses?

The Bible is not like any other book:
• It is the Word of truth.
John 17:17 - Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
• It is the source of joy.
John 17:13 - But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves
• It will give you victory over sin.
Psalm 119:9-11 - 9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
10 -With all my heart I have sought You;
Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
11 -Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.
• It is your source of growth.
1 Peter 2:2 - like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.

When you are reading, PRAY. Pray to God about the scriptures you don’t understand and ask His Holy Spirit to help you . Sometimes a verse moves you, or seems important to you. Ask God about it (may have to ask Him more than once). Don’t give up – remember you are reading the Word of God and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways higher than our ways. Always ask Him. God’s word will change your life but only if you spend time every day in it. The bible will keep you from sin; sin will keep you from your bible.
