Burying My Mother-In-Law

Tomorrow I leave for Mankato, KS, a smallish town in northern Kansas where my father-in-law grew up and met his future wife.

On October 5 this year, my mother-in-law died of cancer. She was 59. She was something of a loopy soul. She was diabetic, and when her sugar would get too low, she would do odd things, like repeatedly send the same email to my wife over 2,000 times in the course of a night (my wife spent hours deleting them).

I can't say she never showed me the rough edge of her tongue, but when she did it was generally deserved.

What I'll probably remember her most for was the love she had for our kids.

Her body is already buried in Colorado somewhere; most of the extended family are in Kansas and Oklahoma, so a separate memorial service was planned. Saturday, we gather to cherish her memory, and remember the hope we have in our Lord Jesus Christ to be reunited with her some day.
