Changing the Culture that killed George

George Floyd died at the hand(s) of the police in their normal course of doing business. What we witnessed, is the ingrained culture of police departments in many places. There is a simple way to fix that problem.

For what ever reason the cop(s) who caused the death of George Floyd can be seen in broad daylight committing the act that caused his death.
For what ever reason the cop(s) did what they did, with no fear, no worry of getting fired, or being charged, or being admonished, or being judged in any manner whatsoever.
For what ever reason the cop(s) exist in a culture that I/we do not, and we can not easily understand.

The solution goes back to before our constitution and the meaning of a "jury", or more accurately a jury of ones "peers".

I for one, as police departments presently exist in our nation, do not feel that I am a peer of a police officer, . . . I have no idea what we ask/expect them to do on a daily basis. It is my opinion and my belief that our society wrongly ask police to do things that we can't and do not want to do/face ourselves.

"If" cop(s) were judged only by their peers, over time (not immediately), good cops (whatever that turns out to be) would turn on the bad cops, and that is the only way the culture in the police department will change. The military have their own justice system for precisely those reasons. We ask soldiers to do things that we don't /can't fully understand.

In front of a jury of one peers, a cop can speak in the figures of speech that only cops understand! They will get a just hearing. Over time, cops will not stand by their partners while their partners are doing something that they would condemn.

Simple solutions are the only ones that work and this simple change would work over the course of a couple years.

The culture did not kill him. That is bullcrap.

A bad cop killed a man, and the bad cop has been charged and will go before a jury. The system works. That's all there is to this. All the rest is hate and lies and politics and race-baiting and propaganda.

The situation is very complicated. Race is a huge issue in the US. It is fallout from slavery, even though that was generations ago. Both sides bear those effects. Slavery destroyed the original culture of the Africans brought to America, and a culture isn't easily replaced. Take a look at how difficult things are for indigenous peoples whose traditional ways have been destroyed (those who live in the US don't have to look far). It's no surprise that so many black people are at the bottom edge of society. Their history is very different from that of 'normal' immigrant groups who came freely. And white racism runs deep, and also far back in history. There are no quick easy fixes to this.

I'll add that Political Correctness in some ways makes this worse, by pretending that the problem is in words, or can be fixed by using different words. "White Privilege" is also not helpful. The problem isn't in what whites have, but in what blacks don't have. And using accusations of "white privilege" as a way of shutting people up doesn't help anything.

Personally I think that education is the key to this. I don't mean making it easier for blacks to get into college. I mean better education from elementary school through high school, to give them a fighting chance. And this will take generations to fix, but political systems aren't set up to think in terms of generations.

Race is a huge INDUSTRY in the US, kept alive by leftist liars and liberal extremists, teaching every new generation to hate in order to keep hate and anger alive to foment socialist revolution.

There is still not one tiny shred of evidence that this death had anything to do with race. So far, it is just a jerk killer cop who killed a man.

I wasn't referring to the individual case. In general, Race is a Huge Issue in the US. I think the US is the most racist country in the world.

We're the most heterogeneous country in the world.

And you're "thoughts" on the subject are programmed by others

The original African slaves brought to North America eventually created their own culture. They created African-American culture. The African slaves brought to North America came from many different areas of Africa. They had many different cultures, languages, religions, art, literature, food, music, etc. When the African slaves started having children the children were born into a greater American culture and were part of a burgeoning Afro-American culture. I want to emphasize that this was an American culture. They created their own version of English, they created their own music, art, literature, traditions that were not African.

Yes, that is true, and perhaps very successful for some- but there remain many who are a different culture, one of poverty, crime, and broken families. I am thinking of culture in a wider sense, more of a structure of society than art or musinc.

Is that true? I heard that he also once beat up a pregnant woman. He also had meth and fentanyl in his system and he tested positive for COVID-19 according to the autopsy. Plus, he was trying to pass off counterfeit money. But all of the media portrays him to us as a "gentle giant" of a man. A swell guy. A purely and wholly innocent lamb, a sacrificial victim of the evil white police and their racist brutality.

And I suppose the police officer had very carefully checked this out, and decided to be judge, jury and executionerbefore choking him to death....

No, but it does mean that he was no innocent victim. The cop still needs to go to jail, but there is a good chance that society was spared more crime from a congenital criminal. If someone does five stints in prison, the last for armed robbery, they have sure committed hundreds of other crimes they never got caught for.

It's possible that he was a known quantity to local law enforcement and that the FOUR officers decided it was time to take it up a notch. Don't know. Not a mind reader.

But he WAS resisting arrest.
