Nothing classical prepared me for that piece and I was exposed to other genres of music as it was through friends including classic rock and pop. They just bored me, so no, I don't think it would have made the slightest difference.

Dude, I've heard Beyonce songs already, at work, going through a shopping centre, around a friends along with a plethora of other pop crap in my life. Obviously not by choice but I've heard the bloody things nonetheless.
Result: Booooooring.
When first learning a sport, game or job etc., there is a learning curve where you may not enjoy it at first. After repetition and learning you begin to enjoy it.But surely you could train yourself to enjoy it?
Depends. It can certainly seem tedious to begin with in certain things. I didn't enjoy how long it took me to be able to play the piano to a fair standard but once I could I enjoyed it as I could experiment with different chords and improv. Where it came to my last job it wasn't enjoyable learning it or doing it. It was just monotonous and laborious graft and the only enjoyable aspect was the money going into the bank at the end of the month...

I liked the result, not the process. I loved being able to play and improve, sure, not the same as what you're arguing.

Yes, you're right.
In fact, if you continued playing at the same skill level you had at the start, you most definitely would not have come to enjoy it.
In that sense, the thing you came to enjoy (skilled piano-playing) was not the thing which you didn't enjoy at the start (unskilled piano-playing).
