Rom 9:13 reads , even as it has been written , Jacob I have loved , but Esau I have hated .

So how do the KJV.-only people explain this ?

Esau made his parents and God upset by marrying Hittite wives and a daughter of Ishmael who had been separated from the house of Abraham. So when using Esau's name it was in the negative.

It's a comparison not to be taken in a wooden literal sense.
It's a comparison not to be taken in a wooden literal sense.
It's a comparison not to be taken in a wooden literal sense.

And we see that Heb 11:20 that God blesses both Jacob and Esau .

And there are many the call Rom 9:13 a Metonymy of the Adjunct or what is called the name of a man for his Posterity and can be read in Mal 1:1 , 2 ,3 as it is Esau children that suffered .

"Love and hate" is a Hebrew idiom for "love and love more."

It's used in the sense that you love 'A' so much, that it's as if your love for 'B' is instead hatred of 'B.'

And we see that Heb 11:20 that God blesses both Jacob and Esau .
It was not the blessing Esau was hoping for.

“Your dwelling will be
away from the earth’s richness,
away from the dew of heaven above.
You will live by the sword
and you will serve your brother.
But when you grow restless,
you will throw his yoke
from off your neck.” (Gen. 27:39-40).
