Don't Look Up is about Astronomers who find a comet that will cause extinction event on earth and their efforts to communicate the information to politicians and the public. Hilarity ensues.

It is an allegory about our response to climate change though the issue is never mentioned.

It is packed with stars we all love, like Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio.

It may not rank as the most compelling reason to curb greenhouse gases, but reducing our emissions might just save humanity from a pre-emptive alien attack, scientists claim.

Watching from afar, extraterrestrial beings might view changes in Earth's atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control – and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat, the researchers explain.

This highly speculative scenario is one of several described by a Nasa-affiliated scientist and colleagues at Pennsylvania State University that, while considered unlikely, they say could play out were humans and alien life to make contact at some point in the future.

Shawn Domagal-Goldman of Nasa's Planetary Science Division and his colleagues compiled a list of plausible outcomes that could unfold in the aftermath of a close encounter, to help humanity "prepare for actual contact".

In their report, Would Contact with Extraterrestrials Benefit or Harm Humanity? A Scenario Analysis, the researchers divide alien contacts into three broad categories: beneficial, neutral or harmful.

That assumes that aliens would consider that humans were the most important form of life on Earth and worth saving.

What If instead they found cockroaches to be most worth saving?

That's exactly what they said about the asteroid.
Until 30 years ago fools never claimed an asteroid they never saw created such an earth-shattering catastrophe it allegedly wiped out all dinosaurs around the world while leaving other living creatures unaffected. Secular science fiction promotes some really stupid theories. Dinosaurs in Africa were not wiped out by an asteroid that hit the Gulf of Mexico 10,000 miles away that supposedly had little effect on mammoths and elephants in the slightest.

They parodied your lack of knowledge and your level of certainty too. A comet a half a mile wide with sufficient velocity will not just hit a half a mile on the earth. The results will effect the entire globe. The impact will be like a million nuclear bombs. Nuclear winter will occur.

Even a smaller comet will kick up enough dust and debris to block the sun for years. The theory is that Dinosaurs were too big to get enough nutrients to support themselves. Little mice had more longevity because they could subsist on dying vegetation and the carcasses of other animals.

Aha. You seem to have a lack of curiosity that has caused you to think incorrectly about a few scientific issues. Like "When does a human first become a human", or "how old is the earth", or "is climate change real".

Or maybe it's not a lack of curiosity. Maybe you are just mean.
