Dove under a cucumber tree

Ah! there a dove
under a cucumber tree
shaded by leaves which cover you
nestling, waiting to see
Your flocking is normally with strangers
ever passing through
this time you came with a message
truth which will not now be true.
*
Troubled in a time of peace
by beauty were distracted
you placed yourself in subjection
but duty called, you ought to have acted
Not now in disappointment but ire
you had gentled your way
midst dwellers fierce but they had listened
to all you had to say
*
Ah! there a dove
under your cucumber tree
your heart is glad you came
though your mind simply cannot agree
downy feathers have been ruffled
you have sighed to be on the wing
away then to your dovecote
to where softlier voices sing.
