I Lived Through Collapse. America Is Already There.

Thank you! It's looking quite possible right now that Democrats will take both the Senate and the House. :giggle:

iu

They sure have, and this risible administration and it's risible turnip at the helm only had themselves to blame. How much longer did they think the American people were going to put up with skyrocketing prices before enough was enough?!

A blue tsunami!

You're definitely not delusional!

Of course he isn't. Apparently Trump is hiding in his private residence today, lol. Aww, poor baby, looks like all the polls showing major dissatisfaction with his presidential performance were right after all...

power shutdowns and bomb threats would only affect "responsible voters."

Even if it's false, and it probably is, let's assume it's true for a moment.

Have you never considered that maybe, just maybe, that that would be the point? That affecting "responsible voters" is intentional?

There are forces afoot that seek the destruction or corruption of America and her values.

Seriously, JR? There were between 50 and 60 million early votes cast before Election Day, so there had to have been at least that many and more, who voted on Election Day. Are you saying that "responsible voters" were afraid to join their 60 million-plus fellow citizens who went to the polls (safely) yesterday?

Right over your head.

Try again. This time actually read what I wrote.

Including domestic. Like it or not JR, Trump has done the *best* job of undercutting American values than any foreign power could hope to achieve. Iran sure has jumped all over the midterm results like a rash and must be laughing their backs off.

It's kind of humorous that at the time I answered you, your post only had one sentence, the one I quoted. That was the entirety of your post.

Anyway. Let's not assume the truth of something that obviously didn't happen, and we know it didn't happen.

The fact is that roughly 120-125 million people voted resoundingly to repudiate the current administration, giving it a whomping so severe it's historic. Dems only needed 218 seats in the House. So far they have 259. The Senate was expected to be more of a challenge, yet Dems exceeded expectations, blowing past the 4 seats they needed by gaining 7 so far.

Here's more, that you won't hear from MAGA mouthpieces:

In governors’ races, Democrats flipped Iowa, Georgia, Ohio, Nevada, and Texas. None of the new Democratic governors will be hamstrung by a Republican supermajority in the state legislature. Republicans in Kansas, Iowa, North Carolina, and Ohio either lost or failed to regain supermajorities that could override a governor’s veto.

The topline races don’t tell the whole story. Voters elected Democrats up and down the ballot. In Texas, the most prominent example of this phenomenon, Democratic senatorial candidate James Talarico won by about 12 points. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa won by 7 points. Voters flipped two congressional seats in districts Trump won by at least 14 points in 2024. Voters elected a Democratic attorney general and four Democratic supreme court justices, and they flipped control of the lower chamber of the legislature.

Many of the races across the country were not close. Some races flipped by double digits from the margins of 2024. Some flips were as high as 20, 30, or even 40 percent. Observers called the results “seismic” and “jaw-dropping,” not just a blue wave but a “tsunami.”

The 2026 midterm elections marked a revolution in American politics. Election scholar Michael McDonald estimates that about 124.3 million people, or just under 50% of those eligible, turned out to vote. That rate is just under the voting rate in the 2018 midterms, which itself was the highest midterm turnout rate since 1914.

The election came off without anything more than the usual hitches, a tribute to the quiet work of dedicated lawyers and voting rights groups who have been fiercely contesting the administration’s efforts to rig the vote or to stir up opposition to accept the outcome. It was, as organizers had hoped, “too big to rig.” After months of suggesting he would contest the outcome of the election if Democrats won, Trump told New York Times reporters Erica L. Green and Tyler Pager that he would accept the results.

The historic nature of this election cannot be overstated. It is a rejection of Trump, who insisted voters should imagine he was on the ballot. But more than that, it is a rejection of the Republican ideology that has driven American politics since the 1980s: the idea that some people are better than others and have the right to rule.

So much more at the link. She ends by saying that "for now, anyway, Americans have moved on."

Trump will be irrelevant sooner than he (maybe even I) expected. He's already back to his ballroom and other pretty things. It remains to be seen if he's lost his recent obsessively male gaze.

Well there's Trump, the rest of the Epstein class, his cabinet and his billionaire donors to name a few. But better days ahead now that Americans have decided enough is enough. Frankly I'm disheartened by your support of Trumpian lawlessness.

It's also telling that Trump's reactions to the unmitigated disaster of Tuesday have been rather subdued for him, almost as if he knew it was going to happen and now realises that his power is gonna be thoroughly curbed and more. It really is a shame. Well, nah, it isn't.

Yeah, I was also struck by his unusual compliance with laws and norms. Kinda spooky really. Maybe you're right that he's finally realized people are exhausted, sick and tired of his unending 'fake this' and 'fake that' and 'stolen elections' and 'we've been treated so poorly' crap. But then I considered that Jan 6 didn't happen until, well, January. So...there's always that...

Well, he's still throwing a coupla tantrums but I expected a complete meltdown, like some of the MAGA brigade are having, lol. Still, he's gotta be worried now that the dems have cotrol of the house and the senate and what that actually entails..
