Stoning of the Devil

Is "Stoning of the Devil" a Pagan ritual before the days of Mohammad.?

A construction crane crashed through the roof of Mecca’s Grand Mosque, killing 107 people and wounding over 200 others. The accident occurred during a sandstorm with high winds.

(From CNN) A stampede during one of the last rituals of the Hajj season has killed at least 220 people and left 450 others wounded. The stoning of the devil ritual occurs near the end of the gathering leads to stampedes with disturbing frequency.

People were trampled in the 1994, 1998, 2003, 2004, and 2006 pilgrimages.

An act of God, or not?

Luke 13:1-5
13 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”

I did some reading on the subject "Stoning of the Devil." It seems to have no relationship to the Quran, but has developed as a custom.

Sin is sin, but they are not worshipping the God of Abraham. Allah and Yahwah are two different gods. Allah is the short form of Alilah.

If you think that Christian customs and beliefs don't strike others as pagan, you are greatly mistaken.

My point being that no matter how sinful, or not, it's a good bet God didn't drop the proverbial tower on their heads. It was an accident, not an act of God.

Put another way: if grandma gets hit by a bus tomorrow, should I likewise call that an act of God? Why/why not?

If you haven't been to southwest Asia and understand the culture mixed with islam, you will not understand that what happened is a common event in that part of the world. Even in the "high dollar" oil countries. In those places, the Arabs simply have their slave labor take all the risk as they go up on scaffolding made of crooked 2 x 4 tied with twine. Things like "building code" as we know it, doesn't exist to them.

Buy a mirror.

Read Isaiah 53 (Ac 7:51). :dizzy:

See:

A big, untold story: Since last Yom Kippur, millions of Jews have begun searching for the Messiah, and for atonement for their sins. The media isn’t reporting this. But it’s worth examining.

Orson Welles was a socialist.

...

Anywho...I think people get so wrapped up in the question of whether or not God killed these people or those, whether this or that natural disaster was an act of God, and so on, etc, and so forth...they miss the truth.

The truth is that should God withhold His hand from creation the universe would probably implode from all the corruption and chaos He keeps at bay. Indeed, to punish or curse someone God need only take His hand away. There's no need at all for Him to take any action whatsoever. Our corrupt universe will drop the hammer all on its own.

We should take a minute, now that the subject has come up, to thank Him for all that He has provided and all the evil He's kept at bay, simply because He loves us. True for believers and unbelievers alike.

Yes, it's not really the point. You've made the more important point (Lk 13:1-5). :thumb: In a fallen world these things are to be expected (Ge 1:31). God wants all men saved (2 Pe 3:9).
"...[T]o punish or curse someone God need only take His hand away."
Some think, I'll live like an animal  and one day accept his grace. Not a good plan (Heb 12:17). :freak:

If we don’t change the direction we are going, we are likely to end up where we are heading. ~ Chinese Proverb

Yes, but only the Christian will thank him. :straight: Ingrates are unattractive (Lk 17:17-18).
