Texas county bans patrol car crosses to settle atheist lawsuit

Despite support from Gov. Greg Abbott, officials in Brewster County have agreed to ban the display of Christian crosses on sheriff’s vehicles to settle a lawsuit from the national Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Under the settlement, approved last week by county commissioners, Brewster County agreed to pay the foundation $21,970 in legal fees and $400 for court costs.

Two atheist residents of Brewster County who joined the foundation’s lawsuit, Kevin Price and Jesse Castillo, also were awarded $1 each “for past constitutional violations,” the consent decree said.

Good form by the plaintiffs only taking $1 each, thereby demonstrating this is about principle rather than money.

In its lawsuit, the foundation argued that the crosses represent a government endorsement of Christianity in violation of the First Amendment’s prohibition on government actions that improperly favor one religion.

District Attorney Rod Ponton, whose West Texas district includes Brewster County, in December asked Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to issue a formal opinion approving of the display, writing that he believed the “cross is a symbol of protection and comfort” for officers.

Funny how, when it's convenient, some Christians are so quick to argue that the cross has nothing to do with Christianity. If it has nothing to do with any religion at all, then exactly how is it a "symbol of protection and comfort"? :idunno:

Either way, good outcome! :thumb:

Don't you atheists have better things to do?

They don't, that is why they do it- pretend to be oppressed by inanimate objects.

But they shove their symbols anywhere they can, and think it's fine because their god is not living. They express this idea that it's fine if nature kills you, but not a living entity.

Makes perfect sense, because they are all ADVERSARIAL and PROSECUTORS of the living.

Maybe you can explain how putting a cross on a patrol car is a violation of "Congress shall make no law"?
As far as I can tell, there was no law implemented by the Federal congress involved.

Fortunately your opinion is of no legal consequence whatsoever. And no, we've been over this and I have absolutely no interest in a repeat.

If it goes to court, the judge(s) decide. In this case however, it didn't get to court because the parties reached a settlement.

Looking at atheist lawsuits against inanimate religious imagery is cringing- because of the utter facade that it is.

"Irreparable damage to the person's mental health"

Joke

Some know deceit when they see it- our judicial system has gotten so bad that we can't depend on judges to actually deduce what and what isn't complete nonsense.

And atheists have taken full advantage of it- they all have smug looks on their faces, too. They laugh at the religious, mock their beliefs, and threaten them with lawsuits.

They don't do it to Muslims, but to Christians because they've seen that most Christians will not violently react. They are cowards- let them carry on with their pettiness until the day the Lord comes and judges them.
