They could have the championship game in my back yard and I wouldn't watch it.

Does anyone really care about soccer in the USA?

:sozo: YEAH WORLD CUP!!

I'm rooting for the US but I don't have much hope. We aren't good at soccer. Once we're out of it I'll pick a new team to root for based on who is left. I kind of like the Netherlands though. I rooted for Italy in the last one. Sort of Brazil, simply for their history.

Who do I think is going to win? :idunno: I think the best players in the world are on Spain, Portugal, and Argentina. I'll go with Spain.

Soccer is a physically exhausting sport. I can never watch more than 5 minutes.

I'm rooting* against Brazil because on my last trip to Disney World there were large tour groups from Brazil making all the lines really long. I suppose I'll root* for New Zealand for Stripe's sake.

* by root I mean not letting it enter my mind in any way :)

I either hope England wins, or hope that it loses. I'm undecided - I'm not sure which would be worse - the hordes of grumpy, disappointed friends and acquaintances who take football (yes, I said it, football) far too seriously and mope about for ages when we lose, or, if we win, having to put up with the hype, commercialism and nauseating patriotism for the entire championship.

No, I don't like soccer either.

Exactly. I'd rather watch a crap-fight between monkeys at the zoo. :DK:

Holland rocks!!!! So of course I would be happiest if Holland won, but that's not gonna happen. Realistically I'll say Brazil.

Who do you root for? The monkey? Or is that an international sport? The U.S. monkey?

I'm rooting for the U.S. But as kmo, I'm prepared to redirect my rooting. I think Brazil has a good shot, as does the UK.

The U.S. starting group is one they ought to advance from.

I missed the announcement the US was throwing together a team for the World Cup this year, so I missed there was a World Cup going on at all. Thanks for the thread so I know what's going on.

Let's see... Italy and Brazil in the final, and Brazil takes it. 10 or so years ago, which was the last time I realized a World Cup was going on, it's what I predicted. I think. Anyway, I'm not sure if the prediction was right back then, but I do think both those teams were in the World Cup, so I'll predict the same thing this year. Someone remind me when it's over and I'll check my prediction. Maybe in 10 or so more years there'll be another World Cup and maybe I'll remember this year's prediction - making this whole exercise a routine.
