what is most wrong with the Republican party?

And Democrats have people just as bad ... only different sins. Since the Clintons and the puppet Biden, it makes me sick to think about the things they have done and believe in. Who can ever visit our Oral/ Oval office again?!!!! Hillary is a disgrace as a wife and as a national leader. The morals and agenda of the Democratic Party is totally godless.

Who can ever visit the Oval Office again?! Have you not been disgusted by what Trump has done to the Oval Office? It looks like a bordello.
You have no outrage for Trump but you're still whinging about people who never held the office of president or held it years and decades ago. You don't hold Trump to account for the damage he has done, but other citizens have. And they voted accordingly.

What if the truth of their religion is to beat your wives, and murder their daughters ... and cut the throats of those who even dare to share the faith they have in Christ ...? Does your tolerance have a red line?

We have religious freedom in this country today. I'd like it to stay that way. That freedom means you may not like or believe in the truth of your neighbor's religion but ideally you should support their freedom of belief.

What's your plan? Deport every citizen of Muslim faith? Tell MI their votes didn't count because the candidate wasn't the approved religion?

That's blatantly unconstitutional. Do you care?

Catholics were historically treated badly by the early colonial governments. They didn't have the same rights as Protestants.

Because we were a Protestant nation.

That was the whole point of the Pilgrims.

Didn't you learn about this in elementary school?

Exactly right. Today I'm proud of my state, very proud of the strength and perseverance of the people who have spoken, and spoken decisively and historically! And proud of a couple of my family members who finally had enough of everything Trump stands for. That's saying a lot, because I come from a conservative world.

History was made, in many ways.

In New Hampshire, Democrat Chris Pappas will be the first openly gay male US Senator. In Florida, Republican Byron Donalds will be Florida's first Black governor. In Georgia, Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms will be the first Black woman governor of that state. In Texas, Democrat Gina Hinojosa will be first Latina governor of that state. In California, Democrat Xavier Becerra will be our first Latino governor. In New Mexico, Democrat Deb Haaland will be the first Native American woman to be governor in U.S. history. And in Michigan, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed will be the first Muslim senator in U.S. history.

There were other historical events - Democrats in offices across the country which had been held by Republicans for generations and decades. Trifectas in states where the Democrats swept both state houses and the governorship. Democrats flipped five governorships, in red states not expected, the majority of governorships will be Democratic in 2027, and some of the most corrupt and scandal-ridden candidates who Trump tried to keep in office are going to be gone.

Oh, it was a historic result in many ways and a disastrous night for the Republicans and they can *thank* Trump and his spineless cohorts for that. True to narcissistic form, Trump is blaming Republican candidates for the losses, claiming that if he'd been on the ballot they'd have won. Secretly, they must be seething something chronic as they would have known his disapproval rating was accurate but meantime, he blustered away about how great he's doing and it was utter nonsense. Heck, he was waffling on abut the reflecting pool the day before the midterms which showed he really had his finger on the pulse on what actually mattered to Americans... They paid the price - and deservedly so. Hopefully, it's the beginning of the end for the orange travesty and his regime, and sanity is gradually restored to the political climate.

Oh, there's corruption in democratic circles but Trump took it to a whole new level. Frankly, after what he's done to the WH, who'd want to visit the tacky testament to his own vanity anyway?! He demolished the East Wing for a ballroom that's never gonna get built anyway and made the rest of it look like (as Obama hilariously put it) a cheesecake factory...

Bill Clinton certainly had his faults but at least he didn't waste millions of dollars of taxpayer money on pet vanity projects, and we certainly didn't have masked thugs like ICE roaming around with anonymity and impunity, separating families and killing American citizens. Hilary never gained presidential power anyway so why you're going on about her is anyone's guess. Trump reflects moral values as much as a mirror that's been covered in tacky, gold paint.

I heard the watch party at the White House was deserted, and Trump was nowhere to be seen. :)

De Santis is already making his pivot:

They'd have known full well that Tuesday was gonna be bad, even if Trump was somehow deluded enough to think otherwise. I reckon a lot of Republicans are gonna try to take advantage of the situation now, as Trump's power diminishes. A lot of them are gonna be worried too, as investigations start...

From what I've seen, the true believers are still clinging to their mantras, one of the most hilarious being a clip of Jesse Watters saying there was not going to be a blue wave, there was going to be a red wall. On every claim he made, the opposite happened. It's like he was standing on a sinking ship with water around his ankles, insisting the ship was absolutely not sinking.

The edges of MAGA are badly frayed and fragmented. In "disarray," you might say. Enough of them have had enough. Could be that the mojo Trump lost on Tuesday is gone forever. Happy thought. :)

Oh, he must surely be regretting all that nonsense now, it must've taken him hours to wipe all that egg off his face...

Some of them are worried that Dems will inherit *the same power they gave themselves.* That's MAGA in a nutshell: 'Power for us - unconstitutional or not - but not for you.'

Texas state Rep. Brian Harrison (R) on Wednesday called on Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to curb Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa’s (D) power before she is sworn in next year.

“We still have total power in Texas, and we must act like it by using the remaining ten weeks to restore separation of powers and limit the emergency powers that Governor-Elect Hinojosa is set to inherit, which would allow her to destroy liberty in Texas by executive fiat,” Harrison wrote in a lengthy post on the social platform X.

Harrison wrote that Hinojosa should not have “unchecked emergency powers” and that “the urgency is undeniable… and inaction is intolerable.” He claimed that Hinojosa will “inherit the powers of a DICTATOR.”

“Due to the absurd (and almost certainly unconstitutional) Texas emergency powers laws, Gov. Hinojosa will literally have the power to modify laws, ignore laws, or create and enforce laws – including criminal laws – on a whim!”
Harrison said.

So.... Abbot had those 'almost certainly unconstitutional' powers, but let's make sure Hinojosa can't get anywhere near them?

The same appeal was made to Georgia's governor Brian Kemp, who took the high road, saying that Georgia voters had spoken.

Oh, it sums up MAGA in a nutshell, but I suspect there's a lot of worry amidst the bluster in certain Republican circles right now as well...

I'm reading a book on U.S. history at the moment, and a few days ago, before the election, I read the following. The author was quoting a

"satire penned by New York loyalists in 1774 and titled 'At a Meeting of the True Sons of Liberty.' The authors mock the patriot penchant for dramatic proclamations and list fifteen farcical 'resolutions.' The fifteenth and final, is instructive:

RESOLVED, lastly, that every Man, Woman or Child, who doth not agree with our Sentiments, whether he, she, or they, understand them or not, is an Enemy to his Country, wheresoever he was born. . . and that he ought at least to be tarred and feathered, if not hanged, drawn and quartered; all Statutes, Laws and Ordinances whatsoever to the contrary notwithstanding."

That could've been written today! Yes, it's satire, but satire that could've been written about today's MAGA. So the roots go deep, on both sides.

Now's the time for the never-Trumpers to reform the GOP from within. I don't believe in the idea of the two main parties being 'wings of the same bird,' but I don't have confidence either that a third party will rise overnight to effective promise, but who knows. They either reform the GOP or they abandon it to the MAGA dregs and form a new conservative party.

Satire often reflects certain truths and is a highly effective way of employing humour to make serious points. If Republicans want to be taken seriously come 2028 they have to unshackle themselves from MAGA, priority one.

Else, continue to be a global laughing stock.
