A few things to note about these verses. KJV uses the word God but the ancient word used was elohiym and it sometime referred to the Most High God. It is a collective noun (Strong's Concordance) It represents multiple members but it is used with a singular verb. EX. Our team is winning. etc. There is a whole bible. It must be applied to find a real truth'
At Genesis 1:26=Let us make man in our image---Does that mean more than 1 created a us or we?=No--At Gen 1:27 = HE( not us) created. Prov 8:27-28=HE( not us) created. Isaiah 44:24= I Jehovah am laying out( creation) by myself--not us or we.
Now God is not a group of multiple gods working together, but his nature and essence as a spirit is multi-facitied. He is a living spirit filled with power, wisdom, life, creativeness, and even his living WORD is there. The WORD of God, which is included in God's nature, is said to be: Jn 1:1-2 The Word was with God and the Word was God. IOW equal in all ways. The Word was not some sub-set of God.
Conclusion: The ONE Spiritual God / Elohiym worked on days 1-6. Then The Spirit rested from his works. Think about this. I understand I am a unique individual with my own unique body of flesh... yet, in my heart and mind I know I am not just my body. I am also a spirit. It is the spirit that will be born again and given a new body. So, this thinking does apply to Gen. 1 for the Spiritual living God created a spiritual living essence for mankind. nc
I suggest this summary: God the Spirit created mankind as a living spirit. Since there was a male and female it is said - He created them.
Gen. 1 is mostly a spiritual creation time - Somethings seem to have come into view such as celestial things... the heavens and the earth.
The collective word for God/Elohiym can be used because of his exceeding greatness of essence and authority... but so can a singular pronoun because He is the ONE true LIVING God. There is also more evidence that God would be called a he instead of a she or an it.Then what is the us at Gen 1:26?= Jehovah( HE) and his master worker( Prov 8:30)= the one who was beside God during creation.( Jesus with 0 doubt) Giving HE=100% credit for creating at Prov 8:27-28).
This is revealed in Gen. 1 also when Elohiym said - Let us make man after our IMAGE and our LIKENESS. The use of the word image means something has appear! So what was it? Answer: It was God's created and chosen image that was already there before the world was. God form Adam /male female after it's likeness and what was mankind's first and only presence? Answer: It was that of a male! Adam/male female was to be given a male image for them. Now this did not happen until Gen. 2
In Gen. 2 the LORD God is described as the one working instead of The Spirit Elohiym. Elohiym stopped his work and rested.
Then came the generations The LORD God made and manifested created things.
So, what the difference? Elohiym the Spirit and The LORD God. Hmmm ... a big key as to who worked.
To discover that follow closely in Gen. 2 and you will find these clues.
1.) The LORD formed a man of the dust of the ground ... no spirit yet in it ... Wow!
2.) He blew the breath of life into the nostrils of the body.6
3.) He planted a garden and made the trees grow.
4.) He formed every beast etc and brought them to Adam to name.
5.) He took a rib from Adam and brought forth the spirit of female out of the male body and formed one for her.
6.) Adam and Woman heard the footsteps of the WORD - who is also God's voice - who is also The LORD walking in the Garden.
7.) And they hid from his presence.
What you have in Gen. 2 is a visible LORD God manifesting the things the Spirit/Elohiym had established. He was a hands on, walking, talking, God with a presence. Adam and Woman could see and hear Him ... talk with Him ... and even thought they could hide from Him.
My conclusion/theory ... what ever people have called it is this: Gen. 1 and 2 are separate events. One more spiritual creations ... the other more visible and literal. The ONE God is Elohiym and is The one God appearing with a presence he name LORD in KJV.
This same LORD God of Gen. 2 appeared to Moses and Moses asked him what to call him. He then proclaims his forever name to Moses!
Ex. 3:14-15
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover said additionally unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this the LORD God is my name for ever.
Moses knew the LORD of the 7th day face to face and so did Abraham and sons ... But Abraham and sons did not know Him by that name. They only called him God Almighty. It was to Moses that God revealed his forever name and seems Moses was ready to record truth in the first 5 books of our Bible.
Ex. 6:2-3
2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
3 I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH / LORD was I not known to them.
KJV added Jehovah ... KJV added LORD ... ancient language might suggest YHWH ... some have chosen to use adonai out of fear of saying His holy name, but the truth remains that The God with a presence appeared and manifested his works on the 7th day and he has a chosen name.
Praise God ... My God and LORD is the WORD of God who worked during creation. He spoke spiritually in Gen. 1 and he manifested things into the created world with his hands and speech. He came as our Savior.John 1:3- Col 1:16--things were created-THROUGH Jesus. That means another did the creating--making Gen 1:26-Jehovah( creator) and his master worker( worked, did not create anything)
Prov 8:22 talking about the master worker= Possessed( created) me as the beginning of your way( creating)=created direct-first and last= only begotten( monogenes=unique)
This is bible truth. What do you think?
Isaiah 43:11 sums up truth of this matter: Remember my additions to scripture for clarity are smaller
I Elohiym the Spirit, even I, the Spirit AM the LORD of the 7th day who appears with a visible image of presence; beside Me as Spirit with a visible presence there is no Savior.
Our LORD Jesus was the promised Son. He completed his works in his day ... and he has risen as God to save judge and inherit.
Ps 82:8 Arise O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
