Why are parents stupid?

So the parent completely ignored what was happening at school in grades K-8 and now suddenly realizes her son isn't graduating after skipping 272 classes and failing all but three of her classes. I bet money she is still voting the same Democrats into office.

And where's the father? What did she do to him?

This was commonplace in the inner city school district that I worked in for 2 years. Administration baldly directed the teachers to adjust failing grades upward so that students could graduate.
I agree. This is normal. However, it helps no one to force teachers to pass kids who should fail. But you're right. Parents are so stupid, they ignore what is happening at school as long as the grades come back right. Look at Atlanta cheating fiasco. Parents were clueless. Outside educators had to blow the whistle.

All this headline tells us is that over half the kids failed all their classes.
How do you get that from this? "Baltimore HS student fails all but 3 classes over 4 years, ranks near top half of class"

That headlines is talking about a single student.

Considering that we're about 3 generations removed from any sort of "well educated" people, none of this is at all surprising in the least.

The teachers are dumb, because they were raised in government schools.

The parents are dumb for putting their children into government schools, because they themselves were raised in government schools, because their parents were raised in government schools, and their grandparents as well...

The kids are dumb, because the ones teaching them are dumb.

And so the cycle continues...

Get your kids out of the Godless government schools.

More important than that, parents need to take responsibility for their actions and force their children to take responsibility for their actions as well.

Although, it is possible the mother is a widow, I doubt it. The mother likely did not take responsibility for her actions when she got pregnant. She likely did not take responsibility for the early raising of the child. She did not take responsibility to make sure her child was learning as he went from grades K-8. She did not take responsibility when he skipped all of his classes. She did not accept responsibility by asking for a parent-teacher conference herself. She did not force him to take responsibility when he failed and did not graduate high school.

There is a culture here which causes failure. If the mother took her kid out of school to teach him at home, the kid would still not learn. Don't believe me? What happened when all the kids went home instead of going to school due to the silly lockdowns? Are all the scores for Chicago going to rise? Are all the kids in Chicago finally getting a good education now that all the teachers are on strike?

At the same time, kids of another culture seem to be doing wonderfully well with public education and beating out all the other cultures so badly that all the universities are handicapping their culture openly and blatantly. Are the kids of this culture stupid? Are their teachers stupid?

If the community has lousy schools, the community needs to take responsibility for their lousy schools and stop trying to find someone else to blame it on. The community needs to take responsibility for their lousy culture. This starts with parents taking responsibility.

Many parents can't raise and teach their own children and telling them to teach their children themselves doesn't solve any problems and usually makes things worse. Many parents can't even feed their own children and many parents send their children to school for one reason only - free breakfast and lunch, and in some places dinner as well.

Wow, I'm wondering how I somehow managed to achieve an 'A'level' with the highest possible grade then.

Seriously, I actually am so this isn't just a critique of your post...

This was about U.S. education. Sorry, if you didn’t know that.
My experience was in math - high school level math - trig, geometry, algebra. The instructors were directed to adjust the individual test scores upwards in order to generate a passing grade overall for the student. Many of the students had only submitted 10% or less of the graded work.

Just to clarify further, final exams at 'ordinary' and advanced level aren't determined by class teachers/tutors.

How you got that conclusion out of the article is beyond me. This is a failure of the school system. Only 1 teacher out of all his teachers even made a single attempt to talk to the mother. The school system kept on passing even though he was failing everything. He failed albebra 1 and spanish 1. The school allowed him to take algebra 2 and spanish 2 as if he had passed the previous classes. He missed 272 days of school without being suspended. Why? How could he fail 22 classes and his teachers never make any attempt to speak to his mother? And the rest of the school he went to fared just as miserably as he did. That doesn't point to his mother. That points directly to the school system.

And his mother? She's working three jobs to feed, clothe, and house her kids because the socialists have killed the job market and the wage scale. And you're calling her stupid? She's most likely working 12 hours a day plus having to do all the cooking and housework. She is showing ambition and love for her children and setting an example of independence rather than being a drone living off the government. I'd say she is doing everything she can. She doesn't have the time to do anything more. She has to trust the school system to treat both she and her children fairly and to do the right thing for all of them. And the school system completely failed her.

This is very common in the public school system. I went back to school in 2001. I took 2 English classes and the level of english skills for the entire classroom was pathetic. And they had graduated from high school. The school system passed them year after year. It seemed to me that it was impossible for any kid to flunk a class. Not a one of them knew the difference between a verb and a noun, let alone verb tenses and punctuation. Most of them could barely read. And what did this community college do? They passed them on again even though they couldn't do grade school level work.

This is the deliberate dumbing down of the US by the school system which is controlled by socialists. There's a reason that there are so many low information voters. These people don't have the reading skills to absorb what little the media tells them. They graduate from high school as illiterate and have never been taught any kind of critical thinking skills. They can't reason their way out of a paper bag. They are fully indoctrinated though.

It's criminal what the teacher's unions and the school system administrators are doing to their students, and have been doing to them for decades.

Who is in charge of the electing Baltimore representatives?
Only 1 teacher out of all his teachers even made a single attempt to talk to the mother.
And the mother made no attempt to contact any teacher. The teachers likely have over 100 students. The parent has a single son.
The school system kept on passing even though he was failing everything. He failed albebra 1 and spanish 1. The school allowed him to take algebra 2 and spanish 2 as if he had passed the previous classes.
The school gave an opportunity for him to graduate. He did not take that opportunity.
He missed 272 days of school without being suspended. Why?
A better question is why did the mother allow him to miss or be late to 272 classes.
And his mother? She's working three jobs to feed, clothe, and house her kids because the socialists have killed the job market and the wage scale. And you're calling her stupid? She's most likely working 12 hours a day plus having to do all the cooking and housework
The mother chose to be a single mother and she should take responsibility for her actions.

Why is the child not doing the cooking and housework?

I truly doubt she was working 3 jobs or working long hours. Even so, she chose to raise a child by herself.

No one complains if the grades come out or the way parents expect them to. There are reasons why employers are testing graduates nowadays. The problem is political and has to be solved politically. No one wants to wake up and smell the poop.

Stupid ideas come from the most literate and educated people sometimes - Germany WWII.

I will agree that most have been spoon-fed their education.
It's criminal what the teacher's unions and the school system administrators are doing to their students, and have been doing to them for decades.
So are you interested in changing things for your own local community or were you just going to rant about how teachers are evil?
