At least nine cases of the mosquito-borne illness have been detected in Florida. Health officials believe all of the cases are from people who contracted the disease while traveling to affected countries.

It was a warm winter so far here, there will be more mosquitos this summer.

There doesn't appear to be good evidence that the Zika virus causes microcephay. Two women in a case study doesn't prove it, that's for sure. Coincidentally, there was a flu vaccination program that was implemented at the time those babies were in utero, and the vaccine they used contains mercury and has been shown in studies to increase the risk of microcephaly. They should determine how many of the mothers received the flu vaccine as part of their investigation, imo.

Perhaps trading one potential, but still unproven, problem for another real problem?

Reproductive effects of occupational DDT exposure among male malaria control workers.

We found an increased risk of birth defects associated with high occupational exposure to DDT in this group of workers. The significance of this association at lower exposure levels found in the general population remains uncertain.​

Since absent good evidence the Zika causes microcephaly, the virus is known to be harmless, so I wouldn't spray DDT.

RECIFE, Brazil — Researchers in the state of Pernambuco, home to a third of Brazil’s suspected cases of infant microcephaly, said on Wednesday that they have identified some of the clearest evidence yet of a direct link between the debilitating birth defect and the Zika virus.

Researchers here tested the spinal fluid of 12 babies with microcephaly, all of whom were born to mothers who reported having symptoms of Zika early in their pregnancies. In all 12 cases, the researchers found evidence of Zika — results they described as stunning.​

Correlation does not prove causation.

I'll look into it.

Still, I would want to know if flu vaccination correlates since that is known to increase risk of microcephaly.

No, it's being overblown. That disease has been around for a long time and suddenly it's causing microcephaly? Let's see more evidence before we jump to conclusions.
