All forms of pollution in China generally is very high. This means that the immune systems of Chinese people affected by pollution is compromised. Add to that the fact that many Chinese are tobacco smokers. According to the World Health Organization, over 50% of adult men in China are regular smokers ( https://www.who.int/tobacco/about/partners/bloomberg/chn/en/ ). Pollution is bad enough for one's health and they are magnifying it by smoking!

An interesting statistic from the infographic linked above is that the global average number of deaths per day for seasonal flu is 1,027, while the average number of deaths per day for coronavirus is only 70! Now of course, the coronavirus is just getting started, so that number is bound to go way up from here and may well surpass the flu, but it just goes to show you that, as things stand now, the ordinary seasonal flu is currently much deadlier than the coronavirus!

EU may contribute to this by the blocking of exports of medical supplies.

But these viruses evolve so quickly. Vaccines will need to be updated all the time, just like Flu Vaccines.

Strangely, we buy a massive amount of goods from China and do lots and lots of trade with China, and I've got to tell you that I have never had to complain about any product or sale from China, but there is one Western European country that I would never sell anything to nor buy anything from.
Taiwan and China are arch enemies, you knw.

Yes. If 50% of the population is infected with only 1% deaths, then that would be 1.6 million deaths in the USA. Some medics are predicting 3% deaths.
You just watch the 'Flu is worse' lay-folks slide away as this illness gets going.
