I don’t disagree with any of that, I’m just saying that fighting to keep the states together is still fighting, which is generally not unifying. A forced unification is not the type of unity the founders had in mind. -

They might "study" presidencies, but they are giving an opinion based on what they would have wanted the presidents to do. Considering many of today's historians are products of today's universities, and today's universities are far and away populated by lefties who vote overwhelmingly democrat. -

I think it is debatable whether Lincoln fueled the crisis or not--going to war against the southern states is hardly a bi-partisan act. Whether that was a good thing or bad is certainly a valid question.
