Congrats!

This may seem bizarre, but i find the homeless, most of them, quite sane (and possibly eccentric) and many of them are vets, which is a tragedy.

Have you ever been homeless?

no, thank God

been awful darn poor lately though

and turned off the running water for the winter a couple weekends ago

i have. And i was pregnant at the time with two little girls. It was cold, in mid October....

did you turn off the water because you have no heat?

i have heat and electricity, pretty comfortable really

and i have an open air shower that i can use when i'm grubby, but last year i just used the showers in the athletic facility on campus

at home, water runs out - that is, the drains work

i have to carry it up in buckets from the river

not so hard now, much more challenging when it freezes

You do know that the survival rates for handgun shots to the abdomen are in the region of 80-85%?

Two shots to the body are more often than not non lethal.

not sure how they put you guys together over in england, but over here we're assembled with a whole buncha touchy stuff in our abdomens, including livers and kidneys and a whole buncha vasculature


not to mention we're talking about a cop who's struggling for control of his weapon


perhaps he could have asked guilford nicely to stop struggling and hitting him while he took aim?

If the head shot was not the last, why put the other shots in?

If it was the last, then why wouldn't some of the first 6 have disabled the kid? He'd been hit in the chest twice, the abdomen {pretty disabling}, and both arms. It's hard to struggle for the gun with both arms injured, and the police report suggest that at least some of the shots were not at very close range, so the struggling had to have stopped by then.

It still looks like the cop lost his cool and decided to kill rather than subdue and arrest the kid.

All seven shot happened inside 5 seconds. Cops keep shooting until you are incapacitated. They don't stop and evaluate after each shot. People have an amazing ability to keep functioning after being shot for several seconds. But yeah, they head shot had to be last I would think.

That would be reasonable for a man with a firearm, shoot to kill and all that with instant death a risk if you hesitate, but for an unarmed person?

Between 19blah and 2003ish, 8% of police deaths were with their own firearm. That was FBI statistics, I don't remember the exact years etc but the 8% figure was correct. I'm too lazy to go find a source now. Anyway, the kid could knock out the cop and shoot him. Anyone with hands isn't "unarmed" in a sense.

Eaton County, MI — It was announced this week that the officer who shot and killed 17-year-old Deven Guilford for flexing his rights this past February, will not be charged for any crimes.

Deven was traveling along the road and flashed his lights at an officer because his headlights were so bright that they nearly made Deven run off the road. He was then pulled over by Sgt. Frost of the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, who stopped the young man for no other reason than the fact that he flashed his lights.

When Frost approached the car, Guilford explained that he was simply flashing his lights to be a polite driver, and let the officer know that his high beams were on so he didn’t cause an accident.

The officer began to get aggressive with Guilford when he was not immediately obedient and attempted to flex his rights during the traffic stop. Guilford refused to show the officer his license and registration because he had broken no laws and the officer had no reason to stop him.

Guilford also began recording the encounter with his cell phone and let the officer know that he was filming for his own safety. He then asked the officer if he was being detained and for what reason. He was told that he was being detained because he refused to comply with Frost and show him his ID. However, not showing his ID is a secondary offense, meaning the officer would actually need a real reason to pull him over to begin with.

On a power trip, Frost violently ripped Guilford out of the vehicle and forced him down to the ground. Guilford attempted to remain filming while he complied with the officer’s orders and moved to the ground. Sadly, Guilford was not moving fast enough for Frost, so he tased the young boy. At this time, both the body camera and the cell phone footage got cut off.

Off camera, Frost shot and killed the young boy. The known details are sparse because the killing happened out of the view of the dash-cam, and the body camera was turned off at that point. However, the officer claims that the young boy attacked him, so he “feared for his life” and killed him, firing 7 shots from his weapon.
