Before Cable TV -

I remember when TV was still just TV. Born in '69 we didn't have cable until about 1982 and that wasn't very many channels. I find myself getting more nostalgic these days and remembering simpler times and family.

My dad is watching old movies left and right, he gets them at the library, about a dozen a week. My mom likes to watch the Game Show Network all day.

I like watching repeats of shows from the mid to late 70s and early to mid 80s. Those were the days - Cheers, Taxi, All in The Family etc. too many to mention. But let's - Let's mention them here, from comedies to cop shows and anything TV.

I thought of this tonight because I used to spend the night with my Grandma & Grandpa on Saturday nights and for years they had the Love Boat and then Fantasy Island on every Saturday evening.

Don't get me wrong, I love satellites and the new media tech, it's just not the same; too many choices.

With a roku, all you would need is an internet connection and a small monthly fee for Netflex, Hulu or Amazon. You can watch a lot of the current episodes that show on prime time TV a day after they play on cable/satellite.

Why not run the cable into a Blu-ray player? They are for the sale of 50$ and last well now, and also most TVs have the apps for this one. The Blu-ray is how I use for this

Even cable network shows ? new shows ? That's a good idea. just having internet and netflix or another service like that. Then again, I have to watch live sports

I am in the middle of changing from Dish to cable and have been without anything but my internet and roku since last Sunday.

The biggest difference is that I have to wait a day watch the fall shows on Hulu.

I wouldn't mind waiting for shows, but the live sports is a biggy. But news and maybe even sports are on the web. I'm trying to think of a good way to not need cable or dish. Too complicated for me, cable is just easier I guess.

I loved Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rodgers. I loved all those shows. I did not like Star Trek much until Picard and the Next Generation.

That's the year cable came to our small town. I think there were about 30 channels. Loved the superstations, WWOR (Mets), WGN (Cubs), and WTBS (Braves).
