Intensive Foreign Language Courses

Some colleges offer intensive 3-week foreign language courses that cover the same amount of material in the same amount of depth as foreign languages courses that last for an entire semester (15 weeks). Students in these intensive foreign language courses go to class 20 hours per week. After they complete the class, they earn the same number of credits as if they had taken a class that lasted for an entire semester. Do you think it is worthwhile to take these intensive classes? Do you think that there is so much cramming that the students are not likely to retain most of what they learned?

You should have some kind of plan to apply whatever you've learnt on a regular basis or you definitely will have a hard time retaining it all without always finding that you need a "refresher" before you can actually use any of it.

That's why intensive language courses work best when you're actually in a place where people speak the language that you're learning intensively.
