Jn3:16 is the most misunderstood, probably the most quoted, Scripture today.
The 'For' at the beginning indicates that Jesus did not speak the words of John3:16-17.
The 'For' indicates that it is John's summarising statement of the gospel.
The 'world' signifies from both Jews and Gentiles.
John is not saying God loved or loves everyone who has lived,is living today, or will live in the future.
John is saying God sent his Son to save many from among both the Jews and Gentiles(Jn3:17).
By 'Whoever believes in him' John does not mean that everyone and anyone whenever they choose can believe in him.
John is not saying eternal life is granted by God on the grounds of our human choice alone.
God not the sinner is sovereign in salvation!
John's 'verdict' is saying the opposite: No-one naturally believes or comes into the light(Jn3:19-20).
Only those the Father has given to Jesus (Jn17:24) will be saved, will be in glory.
The Father sent the Son on a mission to save those chosen by God and given to the Son(Jn6:35-40).
