My fantasy. And a question for liberals

This thread I started was actually an experiment to test whether or not the meme below is accurate. The meme states, "Inside every liberal is a totalitarian screaming to get out." The number of libs on this forum who would love the idea of living in their own socialist Utopia came to a grand total of zero. Why? Because it also meant they would not be able to attempt to dictate to conservatives how they could live. To a liberal such a world would be the opposite of a Utopia. It would be a living hell.

That isn't what totalitarianism means. Totalitarianism is when the state controls every aspect of life. The fact that I care about human rights in rural Alabama as much as I do in San Francisco doesn't make me a totalitarian any more than the fact that you don't want anyone to have access to abortion anywhere in the world.

I don't have any interest in dictating to you how you live your own life. Absolutely none. But I do have an interest in who you plan on dictating to. You seem to be confused about how much control you should have over the guy down the street from you.

When you say "conservatives" are you referring to just those who would want to live under the Christian Taliban, say, 10-15% of the US at most?
You're ignoring the purpose of the thread. See post #378.

Oh wow, this is so sad and also sadly funny on so many levels. Actually, and seriously, it's really just pathetic.

No one on our side of the country would be dictating to anyone because anyone on our side of the country would be free to leave anytime they want. So now what is your excuse for not wanting your own Utopia?

Why should they leave?
They can leave for whatever reasons they think best. It's none of my business. I believe in their freedom.

You think you have the right to force them out or force them to submit to your life choices?
Of course not. That's why they would be free to leave if they don't like our laws. Or free to stay if they do like our laws.

My Utopia is for sharing.
You're lying. Your Utopia is to dictate to conservatives how they should live. You want to "share?" (Whatever that means). Fine. Go "share" on your side of the country. I have no desire to prevent you from living how you want to live. You, however, will not say those same words because in your heart of hearts you know you are a totalitarian.

Likewise, you're free to leave if you don't like the laws that exist now. Go live someplace with more compatible laws if you're so bothered by abortion and Islam and health care. For some reason you haven't. Why haven't you, if this is such a simple solution.

You're lying. Your Utopia is to dictate to conservatives how they should live.

You want to either control your neighbor's lives or forcibly expel them. Hypocrite.

I'll share with this country. Go find a different one to ruin. Otherwise, cut your whining and get ready for a fight. Why you think it's hypocritical of me not to wish to see my country, which I've endeavored to shape to my liking, dissected in order to carve out a domain for you to dominate, at the expense of many people, I cannot understand.

Okay, how 'bout this fantasy. An underwater volcano creates a new gigantic island the size of New Zealand. Anyone wanting to move there is free to do so with the understanding that the laws of this new country would be based upon Biblical Law. Anyone wanting to leave this new country is free to do so. This way you will be free to live under your present socialist, godless United States and anyone who wants to live under Biblical law is also free to do so. You'd be against that also wouldn't you, you wanna-be dictator?

If you get there first, and you set up your little caliphate among just like-minded believers, have at it. But no dibs.

Go ahead and knock yourself out. If you people want to leave why the world would anyone here want to stop you?

What if they can't just 'leave'? You only believe in their "freedom" to the extent that any citizen in your 'utopia' has to comply with the laws you see fit to dictate. For example, in your society anyone not working is entitled to no money/benefits regardless of why they're unemployed. That doesn't just impact on the person alone but also any family/children they may have. Under your system poverty would be rife with little to no means of escape for many but you're so blinkered you just can't see it.

Of course not. That's why they would be free to leave if they don't like our laws. Or free to stay if they do like our laws.

Or caught in the middle with no funds to be able to up sticks.

You seem to have no idea what a totalitarian actually is let alone in any sort of credible position to accuse others of lying.

Er, look dude, if you and a bunch of far right zealots wanna set up your little fantasy commune then go for it. I wouldn't stop you.
