My daughter and I got into a discussion regarding racism. She got angry to the point of tears. I am a SIS gendered fiscally conservative socially moderate white Christian male. She is 19 and very liberal. Interestingly, we are very close on what we want to see happen with "race relations." Where we diverge greatly is on the meaning of racism. She believes that reverse racialism is not possible. I thing it does. I tend toward the Oxford Dictionary definition:

She tends towards a different definition that I found on Wikipedia

Her view and the view of most liberal people today is that reverse racism is not possible because the "Black Race" lacks the power to oppress the "White Race" therefore reverse racism is not possible. My argument is that if a person "hates" another person based solely on the color of their skin, they are racist. The problem that I see is that if we as individuals never stop to honestly examine why dislike somebody then we can never reach a point where we can sit down and have an open and honest discussion with them and that will prevent this nation of ours from moving past our deeply racist history.
This thread is to discuss racism. What is racism? Are the many various definitions given in the Wiki link to broad?
