I'm not sure, but I think you and I are the only two who oppose direct elections on senators.

So if I may I wouldn't mind explaining it. Albeit it might be a tad different than how you feel about it.

Don't leave me out! I want in on this bandwagon!

neither liberal nor conservative in the united states are apparently observing Yhvh's Word, nor honoring Him nor His Word except when it is advantageous, popular, or (mostly) profitable.
as
it is written
in Scripture
"pharmakea will deceive the whole world"
and
"love of money is the root (reason) for all evil".
"love of money" is honored and revered in the united states
instead of being recognized and exposed for the wickedness it is.
it
is especially repugnant that churches love and obey money
and
reject the Bible except for when it's convenient(to make more money)....

You are not making any sense!

It is like saying all brown dogs are biters. Brown dogs are loved in the USA. It is repugnant to keep dogs in kennels because there are brown dogs there.

Left and right isn't a false dichotomy, but an incomplete way of looking at politics.

Nope. It is a sliding one way scale. The more evil you tolerate or endorse, the more liberal/left wing you are. It is an accumalating scale of points. The opposite of right is both left and wrong.

Right is right. The more evil you are, the more left you are.

I support:

Gun rights
Capital punishment
Gay marriage
Legalization of narcotics/drinking age to eighteen
Closure of US military bases abroad

Does that include the sovereign states that want us there for their protection?

Programs that don't cause debt because they are paid for and benefit citizens aren't the same thing.

Which programs are those?

All programs are paid for by citizens, including social security. It is paid from the general fund under the Department of Health and Human Services with taxes from current paychecks.
What did Jesus do when He came upon a woman about to be stoned to death for adultery?

Maybe you'd rather cast the stone. I'm inclined toward an imitation of Christ.

Just saying.

It is so easy to see what "Christians" are not Christians at all, and have no idea what the gospel is.

The wording on most of the questions there is horrible, I dont give it much credit. I also dont believe George Bush is more conservative than me. lol

Economic Left/Right: 3.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.21

The very first question is invalid, as the correct answer is not listed. Typical of these tests. Either there isn't qualifiers, or the right answer. The answer to number 1 is neither for the slow. It is pretty obvious they worded the questions to get the politicaly confused and ignorant to vote for liberals.

I particularly liked the astrology question. The hep cats and chicks dug astrology, because it was way out and too cool for a dim daddyo, square cat. So, it had to be anti-authoritarian and way out left, far out there, like Pluto!

Conservative.

Spiritually, morally, personally, ethically, politically, intellectually, and emotionally.

I find it interesting that there were no "gun control" questions on that quiz.

I too came out closest to Ghandi than any of the others, though several lines lower on the "Authoritarian/Libertarian" line and much closer to center on the "Left/Right" line.

Well, good for you and since it is not an objective test, you just might be another Gandhi:chuckle:

Meh.

Overall regarding politics, I'm apathetic.
I stopped "objecting" to stuff several years ago, because all objecting did was make me angry regarding events outside my control, to say nothing of damaging my relationships with people who thought differently.

Nowadays, I have opinions, but I mainly keep them to myself, especially regarding government action/inaction.
There will ALWAYS be something the government does or doesn't do that annoys me, so getting angry about it just wastes time and energy which could be used working on my marriage or building friendships.

I used to be all hellfire-and-brimstone about politics, first as a conservative then as a liberal...but I'm turning 25 in a few days, and I've realized it's just more productive to focus on bigger and better things (like my wife) which CAN make me happy, than politics which can NEVER make me happy.

Right is right. The more evil you are, the more left you are.

So the left/right distinction, created in 1789, isn't really based on the broad categorisation of different political philosophies relating to economic and social theory and mechanics. It's based on how much Nick M agrees with you.

Lucky ole Nick M, eh?

I have to say, that test does seem decidedly skewed toward the left-libertarian direction; not entirely surprising given that it was (I believe) created by a libertarian organisation.

Politically I'd describe the overwhelming majority of my views as left-wing, but I wouldn't describe myself as a liberal. I'm more of a Marx-influenced Socialist in most ways. I think there are quite substantial problems with both Classical- and Neo-Liberalism, really.

Oh and to jump on the 'Truncated, Abridged, Excessively Simplified, Polarised Beliefs List' bandwagon, I'm:

- Extremely pro-state education.
- Pro-high taxation, especially on the rich.
- Pro-EU.
- Pro-proportional representation.
- Pro-so-called political correctness.
- Pro-state regulation of businesses.
- Pro-environment.
- Tentatively pro-choice.

- Anti-privatisation.
- Anti-military.
- Anti-death penalty (pro-rehabilitation-oriented penal system)
- Anti-nationalism/patriotism.
- Anti-racism/sexism/homophobia (linked to being pro-political correctness; I am also pro-immigration, feminism, gay marriage).
- Anti-animal cruelty.

I consider myself a moral conservative... definitely on the right.

This means:
I am pro-life
pro sex education including the mention of abstinence
pro marriage between a man and a woman
pro death penalty - only for the most terrible types of murder
pro constitution
pro the right to bear arms
pro keeping the mention of God in our nation
pro freedom of worship, which means the right to mention Jesus and our Christian holidays whenever we collectively wish.
... and I'm hoping that there is such a thing as honorable (preferably TURE Christian) leaders.

It would not be the same as the old French Right
Aristocracy
The Church
Honour
Duty
Courage

The questions on class over national affiliation and race superiority and the ruling class, would be disapproved by most, unless they are translated into modern concepts, this would slant it to the left today.

Well quite. Politics are defined by the times; times have changed and always are changing. Nick's definition, then, is bizarre to say the least - I fail to see how his terminology of right = good and left = evil isn't tautologous. Most people, when describing politics, mean something different to Nick, tending to refer to actual political ideas. Nick, on the other hand, might as well just use the terms 'Good and Evil', as he's rendered 'Right and Left' redundant by redefining them as such.

Nick M said:
Actually, it came about in creation. Then Moses wrote it down as God directed him.

So English came about in creation? Interesting.

Also, what evidence do you have that the terms 'left' and 'right' were applied to politics before 1789?

- I am for the death penalty (executing those guilty of capital crimes).
- I am pro-life (protecting those that are innocent).
- I support limited government.
- I support the right to protect oneself.
- I oppose legalizing sexual perversion.
- I oppose legalizing recreational drugs.
- I support homeschooling.

I suppose that makes me a staunch conservative.

Ditto. I'd like to see conservatives take back the public education system though. It seemed good enough for our Founding Fathers.

Someone had to ask you what you meant by sexual perversion?

 Forgive my naivette, I did not work vice. Frankly and truthfully, I do not wish to illegalize anything in the bedroom between consenting adults, as I do not wish to illegalize anything in the marriage bed. I do not want the government in my bedroom, thanks.
