I played Champions of Norrath as a stand alone game...is this an online version?

It's Everquest II! The greatest MMORPG ever, WoWerz notwithstanding. 
Champions of Norrath was a strategy game based on the Everquest universe, haven't tried it. I played Everquest for a few years- Iksar Beastlord ftw! Those little dinosaurs were a strong selling point, as was the challenge of playing a race that was KOS pretty much everywhere in the "civilized" world.
