Many in religion these days have things backwards, they suppose that men can perform a spiritual act from a spiritually dead heart. Yes men naturally born of adam are born spiritually dead. Thats why Jesus told nicodemus a man must be born again or he cannot see the kingdom of God, Christ and Him Crucified. The word see Jn 3:3

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. is the greek word eidō and means:

to know, i.e. get knowledge of, understand, perceive

This certainly agrees with Pauls wisdom here 1 Cor 2:14

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know[understand] them, because they are spiritually discerned.

But once God Sovereignly gives a vessel of mercy a new birth by the Spirit, they are now capacitated Spiritually to believe Spiritually on Christ, hence Jesus says that those who did receive Him, even believe on His Name, did so because they had been born of God Jn 1:12-13

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Which were born
, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

So the ones believing had been previously born of God, this testimony of truth cannot be more clearer !

Yes indeed those who chose to believe received

Yes, and your title is true, those who believe on Christ are evidencing that they are born again. For to believe on Christ starts with doing Romans 10:9-10

Now the same Apostle wrote in His Epistle of 1 Jn 5:1

Whosoever believeth[is believing] that Jesus is the Christ is[was] born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

The phrase "is born of God" is in the perfect past tense indicating a completed act in the past with present results. So the presently believing now is resultive of having been born of God in the past, hence agreeing that believing is evidence of having been born of God, and I believe God here means God the Holy Spirit !

Are those who are spiritually dead able to recognize the fact that they are spiritually dead?

Also, how did they get to be spiritually dead?

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. is the greek word eidō and means:

Absolutely Brother !

No person naturally / in the flesh 1 Cor. 2:14 can even comprehend the magnitude of the Spiritual things of God, let alone Believe on Christ, unless and until they Rom. 9:23 are Born of God and given by Him a New Spiritually Prepared Heart, or "Good Ground" in New Birth John 3:3.

Mat. 13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it;
which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

That came out of left field. So did you understand the post points ? Lets discuss them please

Actually Romans 10:9-10 makes it clear how the unsaved becomes saved

How a natural man that is a man of body and soul only

Becomes a man of body soul and Spirit

What's that man a body and soul receives the spirit from God then that man can discern spiritual things

Absolutely Brother ! Being Born of God is a prerequisite for the Faith / Believing that is the Fruit / Gift of God the Spirit Gal. 5:22, which shall be given to all His Elect in New Birth passively: It's this kind of believing exclusively, which is unto the Saving of the Soul Heb. 10:39.

However, the believing that persons do in the flesh [not born again] has no significant value whatsoever with regard to their eternal salvation;
for in reality it's simply a work of the flesh they do which cannot please God Rom. 8:8!.

1 Jn 5:1

Whosoever believeth[is believing] that Jesus is the Christ is[was] born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

Now Just as believing is evidential of having been born again, so likewise is loving the brethren evidence. So you cant love the brethren before you are born again, so its impossible to believe on Christ without being born again !

The fact that man needs to be born again before he can see the kingdom of God Jn 3:3

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. is the greek word eidō and means:

to know, i.e. get knowledge of, understand, perceive

This is collaborated by Paul here which proves Christ and Paul taught the same Doctrine 1 Cor 2:14

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know[understand] them, because they are spiritually discerned.

So the necessity of being Born of God to be able to spiritually discern the spiritual truth. Gospel Truth is spiritual truth, Paul calls it Spiritual Things 1 Cor 9: 11

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

This also relates to what Paul teaches in 2 Cor 4:3-4 how that men who are lost[unregenerate state] have the Gospel hidden from them.

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Its hid from their minds. The word hid means καλύπτω

to hide, veil
  1. to hinder the knowledge of a thing
So when one is Born of God, they are saved, no longer lost, hence then enabled to believe the Gospel of their Salvation,/believe on Christ who hath saved them !

Amen Brother, simply stated, Birth is passive and Believing is active. Hence, one must first have been born / have been given Spiritual Life in New Birth,
before he can perform the acts of Believing, and Loving the Brethren.

Amen Brother! The Spiritual Things 1 Cor. 9:11 means the Gospel, which can only be embraced and received by those who have been made Spiritual, Born Again, partakers of New Birth John 3:3. However, the natural man who is spiritually dead, if he remain so in that condition during his lifetime, shall be prevented from embracing and receiving spiritual truth savingly; of which the Gospel is 1 Cor. 2:13-14.
